ALTERNATIVE HOMETAPES
Who are The Caribbean? You can search Pitchfork and find reviews (good ones)
of every one of their records. You can time travel back three years and read about
Track Listing: their day jobs on Stereogum; a civil litigation attorney, an English teacher, and a
US Dept. of Transportation librarian have been writing, recording, and performing
music together for over a decade in Washington, DC. They've been on
Hometapes since 2004, helping plow the land that grows bands you've heard of.
Discontinued Perfume is about the gray area -- where we all live. "Just breathe

11. The Declarative
- Fourth album always well reviewed on Pitchfork
The Cave Singers spend a good deal of time beyond the darkened edges of
Seattle, in the mist and mystic, among the wolves and redwoods. And their songs,
Track Listing: at least on record, have always been like beautiful, faded grayscale photos of this
hinterland. Now, these photos are injected with hot blood and technicolor, a
ferocity and bite weʼve yet to see from the band.
By all accounts, No Witch is The Cave Singersʼ rock record. Laid to tape with dark
wizard producer Randall Dunn (Black Mountain, Sunn O))), Boris), No Witch is
1. Gifts and the Raft grander and more lush than The Cave Singersʼ previous efforts. Itʼs also a nervier,
2. Swim Club scrappier affair: greasy guitars buck and rear up; Eastern-influenced blues snake

Five years. A very long time in popular music, especially in the present moment when the

Track Listing: it took Daniel Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Brother Danielson, a.k.a. Danielson, to complete
this his newest work, Best of Gloucester County. Normally what happens to our artists of
the popular song, in the completeness of adulthood, is that the demands of family and
mid-life make the write/record/tour rat-race unappealing, and five years ensue because
the artist no longer wants, not entirely, what the popular song offers in the way of
profession and culture. Instead, he wants some of what family brings. Who can blame him?

and low-end bass, the dark air of two eerie violins, thunderous raw percussion, and female

filtered through the ghostly vibes of American gothic tragedy.
“No Help For The Mighty Ones” is the bandʼs third album (which was mixed and mastered by
Marduk bass player Magnus Devo Andersson at his Endarker Studios in Sweden) and
easily eclipses their previous two albums; namely their self-released debut “The Worm Has
