ARTIST STATEMENT Submissions include a brief artist’s statement that is generated by completing our
STUDENT ARTIST STATEMENT FORM. This statement is intended to help you start thinking about your
project and to tell us about your idea: what you want to create, how you will create it, why it is meaningful
to you, and how it responds to the theme. Submissions are considered incomplete unless the artist
statement is included with the proposal submission. Advisor-Mentors may assist in completing required
paperwork for younger students.
ADULT ADVISOR-MENTOR Every student team must include the committed participation of an adult
Advisor-Mentor who will act as team manager and be the main contact for the project. Advisor-Mentors
will provide guidance in creation of the artwork, as well as manage and be responsible for all logistics and
transportation in regards to participation in the Festival. Advisor-Mentors may be school faculty/staff,
teaching artists, community leaders or parents. Individual student teams or their school sponsors are
responsible for financing the projects, rehearsal needs, supplies and materials, costumes, and
transportation to and from the festival and related events.
Please share this information with teachers, school site administrators, community organizations and
other interested colleagues. For further details or for electronic copies and examples of the submission forms,
please contact Montalvo Arts Center at learn@montalvoarts.org or visit www.montalvoarts.org/education.
