In 2007 the Roundtable supported a recommendation

Endorsement of the Joint Statement Against the
Physical Punishment of Children

On the advice of the Roundtable, Council was one of


the first Municipalities in Canada to endorse the Joint
Statement Against Physical Punishment of Children-
sponsored by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern
O t i (CHEO)
Ontario (CHEO).

The Roundtable also promoted the Joint Statement to


other community organizations.
Promoting Public Transit to Youth

Recommendation: that the City to continue this


program or other low cost transit options for Youth.
Planning for the Needs of Children and Youth

The Roundtable received Child and Youth Friendly


Land-use and Transportation Guidelines, with a Call to
Action for Ontario Municipalities to endorse them.

Members worked to ensure that these guidelines were


reflected in the Sustainable Mobility Plan
Plan.

Recommendation: that the Cityy use these guidelines

future reviews of land-use and transportation planning.
Children and Youth Planningg Council

The Roundtable supported work underway to launch a


Children and Youth Planning Council to ensure
coordinated community planning for children 00-18

Recommendation: that Council and City departments,


including Children Services, Recreation, Libraries,
Police and others, support and participate in this
Planning Network.
Schools as Communityy Hubs

The Roundtable identified the increased use of school


facilities as community hubs as a priority.

The Roundtable developed and promoted a "Vision


Vision for
Full Service Community Schools" which has been
endorsed by several community partners.

Recommendation: that the City continue to work


with community partners to support the
implementation of the Vision for Full Service

Parenting Education & Support Strategy
Strategy- Triple P

The Roundtable introduced community agencies to


Triple P - a system of parenting education to be
delivered community-wide .

Recommendation: that Council promote Triple P to


Greater Sudbury Parents
Community Research Network for Children and
Youth (CRNCY)

CRNCY was launched by the Roundtable and moved


to the Best Start Network. Its main goal is to foster
collaboration among researchers and community
partners.
