November 2010 Monthly Report

1. Student Legislative Council Meetings

SLC 68/18 November 2, 2010

• Council voted to approve the new Quality Money terms of reference.
• Following a discussion regarding different use of the space that is
currently used by them, council voted to decrease the number of nickel
copiers to accommodate a new tenant. I voted in support as the plans are
financially sound.

SLC 68/19 November 9, 2010

• Council voted unanimously to support an extension of funding for the
Undergraduate Research Symposium due to the large increase in demand
seen this year. This is a valuable opportunity for students from all of our
faculties, so funding was an important decision.

SLC 68/20 November 16, 2010

• I was absent for this meeting as I was attending the Management Alumni
Excellence (MAX) awards ceremony.

SLC 68/21 November 23, 2010

• New UofC President Dr. Elizabeth Cannon addressed council and gave us
the opportunity to address her with questions. I asked the rationale behind
the amalgamation of the WRC and the CCEN. She outlined that the
University continues to look at other options for the situation.
• Council voted to excuse me, Ms. Bradley and Mr. Nanji from our MAX
absences last week, on the grounds that we attended this event in the
capacity of our respective Students Union positions.

2. Faculty Work (and connecting with constituents)

• MAX Awards ceremony – Attended the MAX awards as a student
attendee. This allowed me to discuss a number of topics with alumni, as
well as Haskayne students, Faculty, and Staff.
• Clive Beddoe & John Forzani Leadership speech – Helped staff clean up
the space after the event, and took the opportunity to network with
students who were in attendance
3. Committee Work
Haskayne Presidents’ Circle: Discussed the nature of some of our clubs and
furthered the discussion surrounding changes to the way students within the
faculty are represented. Those in attendance also discussed the ongoing clubs
trailer fundraising project.

Haskayne Student Levy Committee: Discussed allocation decisions with various

applicant clubs as any concerns arose.

5. Goals – capture on goal tracking sheet.

• Clubs trailer project: This month, the sponsorship package essentially
came to completion. We are waiting for a letter that will be included in
the final package, but all other information is complete, including
impact numbers (Total number of clubs executives, total
memberships, and total number of Haskayne Clubs events).
