January 2011 Monthly Report

1. Student Legislative Council Meetings

SLC 68/24 January 11, 2011

• Absent as ICBC was the preceding weekend

SLC 68/25 January 18, 2011

• Absent, as Presidents’ Circle ran concurrently with SLC

SLC 68/26 January 25, 2011

• Discussed the Kinesiology Record Board with council, supporting the
project once again, as I recognize the importance of the project to the
students in Kinesiology and the Dinos.
• Held preliminary discussions regarding Elected Official compensation and
possible alternatives to the current model. These discussions are still very
preliminary, as we try to address the compensation questions that every
major organization faces.

2. Faculty Work (and connecting with constituents)

Presidents’ Circle: Discussed events being held by the various Haskayne clubs,
as well as the newly introduced strategic plan. We discussed what the primary
student concerns were with the plan and set a meeting date for follow-up on
Thursday morning once the plan had been read by all.
Presidents’ Circle (Strat Plan Meeting): Met with a number of clubs presidents
once again to go over exactly what the primary student concerns were and what
the plan of action should be. Myself & Daniela Montgomery formulated a list of 16
important questions based on the concerns brought forward by the AMSO
presidents.
Strategic Plan Town Hall: After a lengthy presentation on the strategic plan, the
floor was opened to questions. A number of students asked about issues
surrounding facilities, clubs support, class material, research content and the
new competitive environment in which the Haskayne School operates. The dean
has asked us to organize a second town hall exclusively for students and we are
underway with that plan.

3. Committee Work
• I did not sit on any committees for the month of January.
4. Other
Case Competitions: I competed as a member of the Haskayne ICBC 2011 team.
The team tied with Concordia for first overall. The Haskayne School also
competed at the 2011 JDC West competition, winning our first medal in Business
Strategy.
Business Day CIF: Last year Carmen Tsang had a Campus Improvement Fund
application approved to help offset the cost of Business Day attendance and to
cover some of the costs of renovation to the clubs trailer. There have been some
concerns over the cost of tickets this year not going down as substantially as
expected, so I have been in discussions with CUS regarding why,

5. Goals
Clubs trailer project: This project saw little progress in January. I spoke with
Daniela Montgomery and received her letter endorsing the clubs trailer
renovations. Had discussions with CUS Street Team Director Jason Mack
regarding the final design, with an aim to have it done by the first weekend of
February.
