Yarn needle
Blanket measures approximately 60" x wide by 80" long, excluding optional fringe.
GAUGE
Gauge is critical for this project in order to obtain a specific size blanket (if you do not want to
follow the gauge instructions your end result may be much larger or much smaller; each panel
will be specific, but in general half double crochet, 12 sts and 6 rows = 3" W x 4.5” L using G
hook

SPECIAL TERMS:
Cross Cable: Skip next 2 FPdc 2 rows below, FPdc around each of next 2 sts; working in front of
last 2 FPdc made, FPdc around each skipped FPdc.
FPdc: (Front Post double crochet) Yo, insert hook from front to back to front around stitch
indicated, yo and pull up loop, complete as dc.
(Note: Skip st on current row behind FPdc).

STITCHES:
Chain (ch); Single crochet (sc); Half double crochet (hdc); Double crochet (dc);

NOTES:
Afghan is worked in seven panels –(A)one 3-Cross Cable panel, (B) two 2- Straight FPdc Cable
panels, (C)two tiered hdc panels, (D) two 3 cabled panel with 1 cross cable center framed by two
straight FPdc cables **(see pictures for further clarification)**
Cable Panels are worked vertically, edging on all panel is worked from side to side.
It is important that all Cable panels be worked the same number of rows; place a marker at even
intervals while working, to help keep track of rows and to help pick up the correct number of sts
evenly for the edging.

Corrections:
Once you have chained the correct number with the larger hook, switch to the hook you will be
working with on the rest of the panel (if you chained with H, switch to G etc)
Also, on the cable sections, once you get past the first area where you FPdc 2 rows below you
will start working only 1 row below so as not to cover the cable.

DIRECTIONS:

(A) 3-CABLE PANEL: (Make 1) Panel should

measure
8” x80” or approximately 20 cm x 200cm

turn (28 sts).
Row 2 (even rows will be the back side of the cabled
blanket): Ch 1, sc across (28 sts).
Row 3: Ch1, (sc in next 4 sts, FPdc around each of next 4 sts 2 rows below) 3 times, sc in last 4
sts, turn (28 sts).
Row 4: Ch1, (sc in next 4sts, hdc in each of the 4 sts behind the cabled section to prevent bowing)
3 times, sc in last 4 sts, turn (28 sts).

change…continue with ending in step 10): Repeat Rows 5 -- 8.
Rows 357 -- 360: Repeat Rows 5 -- 7 once more. Fasten off.

(B) 2- Straight FPdc Cable panels: (Make 2) Panel should

measure 3.5” x80” or approximately 9cm x 200cm

panel)
Last row for this panel will be the sc/ hdc reverse side that has been the norm for all even
numbered rows (2,4,6 etc)

Alternative Panel B
You can switch panel B up a bit by cross cabling the two FPdc
chains on every third row. This was suggested by Daisy27 on
Ravelry.com and I think it would be a fun alternative 
(C) Tiered Half Double Crochet Panel: (Make 2) Panel
should measure 16” x80” or approximately 40.5 cm x
200cm
Using larger hook, chain 57.
Row 1 (RS): Chain 2, hdc in 3rd st from hook, sk 1 st, *2hdc
in next st, sk st, 2 hdc in next st* across (should be 2 hdc in last
st, or rather st #56 on original chain), turn (56).
Rows 2: Ch 2, hdc in 3rd st from hook, sk 1 st, *2hdc in next
st, sk st, 2 hdc in next st* across (should be 2 hdc in last st, or
rather st #56 on original chain), turn (56).
Row 3-180 (or however many rows must be completed to reach 80” L)

(D) 3 cabled panel with 1 cross cable center framed by two straight FPdc cables: (Make 2)
Panel should measure 4.5” x80” or approximately 11.5cm x 200cm(essentially combination
of panels A and B  )
Using larger hook (if working w/ G chain in H, if working in H chain in I etc.) chain 17.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in second ch from hook and each st across, turn (16 sts).
Row 2 (even rows will be the back side of the cabled blanket): Ch 1, sc across, turn (16 sts).
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, FPdc around st 2 rows below next st and next st 2 rows below, sc in
next 2 st, FPdc around st 2 rows below and next 3 sts 2 rows below, sc in next 2 sts, FPdc around
st 2 rows below next st and next st 2 rows below, sc in last 2 sts, turn (16 sts).
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, hdc in each of the2 sts behind the cabled section to prevent bowing,
sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4,sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last 2sts, turn (16 sts).
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, FPdc around st 2 rows below next st and next st 2 rows below, sc in
next 2 st, Cross Cable in next 4 FPdc sts, sc in next 2 sts, FPdc around st 2 rows below next st and
next st 2 rows below, sc in last 2 sts, turn (16 sts).
Rows 6 and 8 (and all even numbered rows): Repeat Row 4.
Row 7: Repeat row 3
Row 8-356: (Remember to adjust rows if needed) Repeat Rows 3 -- 6.
Row 357-360: Repeat 3—7.
Edging/ Connecting Panels:
Turn Panel with long edge facing up. With the right sides of the cabled panels facing up (as in
you can see the cables rather than the cables facing your lap), using smaller hook, attach yarn at
corner, ready to work across long edge.
Row 1 (RS): sc join (insert hook into both panels at once in an even spacing, and continue in
normal sc)
Note* The ridge created by the sc join should be on the same side as the cables, essentially
creating another textured surface on the front of the blanket.
Join ALL Panels (See Diagram): * makes sure all panels are going in the same direction before
joining; the panels should go together in this formation: DCBABCD. Using smaller hook, join
the inside edges of panels B to the outside edges of panel A. The inside edges of panels C should
join to the outside edges of panels B, and the inside edges of panels D will join the outside edges
of panels C.
Edging -- Upper and Lower edges:
Using larger hook, join yarn with slip st to corner at one short edge of Blanket; ch 1, work 1 row
of sc evenly across. Repeat at opposite end.
Fringe: (Optional)
I prefer to cluster fringe on the outside 4 corners (think the Magic carpet from Aladdin), but you
could change this to reflect your tastes. If you like Top & Bottom fringe, all around fringe, or no
fringe at all, go right ahead and follow your whimsy 
