Guidance regarding watch keeping


IN CONNECTION WITH ISM CODE SOME IMPORTANT REGULATIONS ARE TO BE NOTED
Extrat from "STCW"
1)All pearsons who are assigned duty as on officer in charge or as a rating forming a watch shall be provided a min.of 10 hrs of rest in 24 hrs
2)The hours of rest may be divided into no more then two periods, one of watch shall be at least 6 hours in length…………………………….
3)The requirements for rest periods laid down in 1 and 2 need to be maintained in the case of emergency or drill or in other overriding opere-
tional conditions……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
4)Notwithstanding the provisions of 1 and 2,the minimum period of 10 hours may be reduced to not less then 6 consecutive hours provided
that any such reduction shall not extend beyound and not less then 70 hours of rest are provided each seven days period…………………….
