Titular Bishop of Celeneby Pope BenedictXVI.

In 1985 he received an appointment by the Barnabitesto study the history of those Barnabites
being consideredfor canonization. He is also a membcr of the "Latinitas For-rndation,"
promoting
the study of the Latin languaS;e.Since 1997,Fr. Sergiohas been the Prefectof the.SecretArchives
of the Vatican, tarr-rght

professorat the.St. CharlesAcademy of Milan.

In his sermon,PopeBeneclictdrew a parallelof the work of a bishopwith the3 Archangels,Michael,


Raphaeland Gabriel,noting that eachname ends with "el" for Cod. The bishop is God's messenger
and must defend the causeof Cod's onenessagainstthe dragon:"the ancientserpent." The bishop is
the guardian angel of the Church, which is entrusted to him. The Bishop p;uidesthe people of Cod in
their pilgrimage to find joy in the faith, to acceptCod and rejectevil, and to becomeone with Cod. "It

VERY REV. FR. STEVEN M. GRANCINI
AND FR. LOUIS M. SOLCIA, BARNABITES
The lives of Fr. Steve and Fr. Louis have interwoven during the past fifty years. Both were
ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Joseph Burke on December 8, 1.957,feast of the Immaculate
Conception, at St. JosephCathedral in Buffalo, NY.

After ordination Fr. Steven attended the University of Buffalo and graduated with his Masters
at Niagara University. Fr. Louis attended Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and was later transferred
to San Pedro, CA to teach at Fermin Lasuen High School while attending Loyola Unir.ersitv in Los
Angeles where he graduated with a degree in Education.

Returning to Buffalo, Fr. Louis joined other Barnabite Fathers at Bishop Gibbons High School in
North Tonawanda, NY where Fr. Ster.enr.r'asAssistant Irrincipal. During this time, Fr. Lcluisresided
at St. Anthony M. ZaccariaSeminarv, Lelr,iston, NY as director of the Barnabite Seminarians.

In 7964,Fr. Stevenwas elected Provincial Superior of the North American Province and in 7976
he became Superior General of the Barnabite Order.

When the Diocese of Buffalo closed Bishop Gibbons High School, Fr. Louis was transferred
to Bethlehem Catholic High School in Pennsylvania. While teaching, Fr. Louis attended Lehigh
University receiving a Masters degree in Social Studies.

After 11 years of teaching,Fr. Louis was made Pastor of Assumlrtiorr Parish in Stoney Creek,
Ontario, Canada and later of St. John'sParish in Gtrelph,Ontaric-r.

National Shrine is visited each year by more than 75,000
people. Groups of different nationalities find a place of
gathering and bonding at the Shrine.
