UNIT MANAGER

A. Job Summary

Responsible for providing leadership in assessing, planning, implementing, directing and evaluating the care of all patients on a 24 hour basis. Ensures that standards of
nursing practice maintained in the management of personnel, supplies and equipment.

B. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain attentiveness to customer’s need; initiates steps that will comply with their requirements to meet and exceed their expectations.
2. Maintain alertness on opportunities for service enhancement, endeavors to continually improve quality of work.
3. Assesses the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care
4. Prepares bi-weekly schedule of staff
5. Adjusts staffing and assignment appropriately
6. Prepares daily staff assignment
7. Ensures that:
a. health status of all patients is assessed as outlined in the Standard Nursing Practice in the unit
b. assessment date are organized so that they are accurate, complete, accessible and confidential
c. records and reports are assessed and interpreted
d. pertinent information are communicated among the health care team members, such as accurate identification of the patient, complete consent form, vital signs
and time taken, pre anesthesia evaluation, confirmation of surgical site, preoperative medication and time given, laboratory and diagnostic results, last oral
intake, elimination, admissions, transfer and discharge, lab results, significant change in patient’s health status.
8. Participates in the development of nursing policies and procedures for the unit.
9. Participates in the development of an action plan based on the operational plan of the department
10. Monitors adequacy and functionality of equipment, transferring patients and other relevant matters that ensure quality care.
11. Participates in the planning of the in-service training and continuing education of the unit’s nursing personnel.
12. Directs staff in the implementation of the standards of nursing practice, policies, procedures, guidelines, work instructions and protocols.
13. Implements standards and policies related to:

d. Drugs/control of regulated drugs
e. Calibration/preventive maintenance of equipment

14. Assists in conduction of unit orientation and education of new employees.
15. Participates in the provision of in-services education/training programs pertinent to the unit.
16. Keeps immediate superior informed needs, problems, incidents and other reportable situation such as:
a. all unit-specific equipment/supplies
b. care and use of all unit-specific equipment/supplies
17. Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patients and personnel
18. Serves as a consultant in technical and professional matters for personnel.
19. Evaluates continually standards of nursing practice by reviewing assessment of patients, reviewing of charts, interviewing, observing, and participating in quality
system activities.
20. Analyzes incident reports, corrective action reports, customer complaints and other related reports and take appropriate act.
21. Revises standards in collaboration with the Area/ Department Managers.
22. Accomplish monthly report. Submits to Area/ Department Managers as required.
23. Participates in the conduction of regular performance appraisal of all nursing personnel. Recommends personnel for recognition/promotion.
24. Performs other responsibilities as delegated by the Area/ Department Managers/Supervisors.
CHARGE NURSE

A. Job Summary

Provides leadership in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in the unit during the shift. Responsible in meeting the standards in
Managing all the assigned person, equipment and material resources in the unit. Ensures that continuity of care with other shifts and teamwork are maintained and promoted all the
time.

B. Duties and Responsibilities

2. Maintain alertness on opportunities for service enhancement, endeavors to continually improve quality of work.
3. assesses the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care

6. Assess the health status of the patients per nursing standards to the unit. Ensures that:
a. a comprehensive history and physical examination is completed in each patient
b. assessment data are organized, accurate, complete in each patient
c. reports and records and assessed and interpreted
d. pertinent information are communicated among the members of the health care team, such as:
i. accurate identification of patient
ii. complete consent forms
iii. vital signs and time taken
iv. laboratory/diagnostic results
v. nurse’s progress notes
7. Regarding nursing care plan:

e. Directs/supervise others in the formulation of nursing care plan

12. Supervises personnel in the implementation of nursing standards and procedures of the unit
13. Ensures doctor’s orders are carried out and implemented as prescribed.
14. Keeps Unit Manager/ Coordinator informed of needs, problems, incidents and other reportable situations during the shift.
15. Assists in the investigation of problems, irregularities and non-conformances
16. Performs other responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager.
