Apply to Student Financial Services to register Date Organization Hours

with the Community Service Bursary program.

Complete and sign a Service Agreement with

each student volunteer. Return the Service
Agreement to Student Financial Services.

Inform the student about the commitment,

obligations and responsibilities involved in
volunteering with your organization.

Supervise, monitor and track hours. Please

ensure that the student is given the
opportunity to develop new skills and make a
meaningful contribution to the organization
and its goals.

The Department of Innovation and Advanced

Learning shall not be held liable for any
accident or situation that might occur while
the student is volunteering for an organization.

 The Community Service
Bursary is designed to …
• offer Island students in grades 11 and
12, who plan to attend any post-
secondary institution, a bursary in
recognition of work performed in the
community;
• encourage youth to volunteer, support
volunteer organizations and assist
young people in achieving their
education goals;
• provide youth with new experiences in
their communities;
• develop a sense of community
responsibility in youth;
• develop career and leadership skills in
youth; and
• provide meaningful service in Island
communities.
Student Eligibility
Prince Edward Island students are eligible to
accumulate volunteer hours as soon as they
are promoted to Grade 11.
Students may accumulate volunteer hours
until August 31 of their high school
graduation year.
Students are required to volunteer a minimum
of 30 hours. The maximum number of hours
for this bursary is 100.
The Community Service Bursary is calculated
at a rate of $5 per volunteer hour.
Participating organizations must be non-profit
and non-political. Fundraising activities do not
qualify as acceptable student volunteer
placements.
Volunteer work cannot form part of student
academic studies nor can it be related to
extra-curricular school activities.
Student Responsibilities
Look up a list of eligible organizations. The list
is available at www.studentloan.pe.ca.
Contact the organization and make
arrangements to volunteer your time.
Complete a Service Agreement with the
sponsoring organization. This agreement
MUST be signed and returned to Student
Financial Services BEFORE volunteer
hours can be accumulated.
Ensure that your agreements have been sent
to Student Financial Services.
Send a student information sheet to Student
Financial Services no later than July 30 of
your graduating year. This form will be mailed
to you in June. It is also available online.
Community Service Bursary payments will be
sent to your post-secondary institution in
November to be applied directly to your
student account.
If you are not planning to attend post-
secondary studies in the first year following
graduation, you may put your bursary on hold
for one year. Please contact Student Financial
Services to make this arrangement.
