INTRODUCTION
SKYLEAD GROUP OF COMPANIES consist of Skylead
chemicals Ltd., Skylink Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. & Ambika Chemicals
Pvt. Ltd. M.D. of this company is Mr.L.C.Raoi supported by his better
half Mrs.M.L.Raol.

The company posses a technologically advance & well-


equipped quality assurance laboratory that maintains international
standards as per excellence. Today their multipurpose their processing
facilities are consistently undergoing improvement & expantion of
new technologies, equipment & prodict.

Overall 180 people works for the clock in Skylead group of


companies spreaded in 30 acres. The group manufactures many
product but their main products is 5-sodiosulpho isophthslic acid & 5-
sodiosulpho dimethylisopthalate.

The greatest strength of Skylead group of companies is 30


scientist of whome 3 are Ph.d 10 are Ms.c & rest are chemistry
graduates. They have 6 engineers besides 3 M.B.A in marketing
department & administration.

PROFILE OF THE COMPANY


M/S Skylead chemical were incorporated as a private ltd. Co on
31.oct.1995 to manufacture chemicals. The company stsrted

commercial production in the last quarter of 1986-87. initially the co.


was in manufacture of various types of bromides.

On 16 jan.1995 the co. was converted into public limited


company & fresh certificate of incorporation of changed name of co.
was obtained from the register of companies in 1996. The made issue
of share in month of march. An approximate share of NRI in
company’s total share is 25%.

Ina view of increased capital based & substantial enhancement


in to fixed assets block of the company it was considered necessary
that the co. has to diversify itself in to the high valued based monopoly
product. Thus co. diversified in manufacturing of monopoly products
& started producing specialty chemicals meant for export only.

M/S Narchem consultant Pvt. Ltd. Of Bombey, the technical


advisor of the co. should diversify in to Isophthalic acid based
derivatives, of which there were no manufacturers in India. And the
demand of such derivatives in international market was quite &
substantial. Dr. J.J.Nerukar of Narchem consultant the Pvt. Ltd. Was
also on the board of Skylead chemical Ltd. & therefore the co. did not
have any problem with establishing the manufacturing process &
finding reputed buyers in the international market at the reasonable
good price for such diversified product.

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT


The company was primarily started in year 1985 to take the
benefit of new location and the firm was named as Skylead chemicals
Pvt. Ltd. After the passing of some time J.K.synthesis provided
Skylead with technical know how to produce D.M.S salt & production

was started accordingly. They started producing Bromine compounds


since 1982.

The Construction of present site was started in 1985 to take the


advantage of new location. As a result of new product. The old
product Bromine compounds was shifted in second new plant & it was
named as SKYLINK chemicals Pvt. Ltd. Hence, simultaneously the
production was on it’s way.

After two years AMBIKA Technochem Pvt. was established.


Letter, management desided to stop production of D.M.S-salt and
decided to produce monopoly products DcBMS & Na-SIPA a Skylead
& Skylink.

During the journey from quality chemicals to Ambika


Technochem Ltd. & directors also go on changing. First Mr. Kantibhai
got detached & present chairmen Mr. L.C.Raol joined the director
body latter on MR. K.K.Patel & Mr. Yashdharbhai also resign from
directorship & Mr.J.J.Nerukar joined the group.

SIZE OF UNITY
The size of the unity is determined through the capital
investment it makes while lunching the business. The size of the unit
can be of three types i.e. small scale, medium scale & large scale.

The co. is said to be small scale if it’s investment is less than


Rs.60 lacs. And it is said to be medium scale if it’s investment is under
3 corrodes. A company is said to be large scale if it’s investment is
more than Rs.3 corrodes.

Skylead group of companies had made investment of Rupees 8


corrodes in it’s capital. It have working capital of Rs. 4.5corrodes the
co. mostly exports its product.

The company posses almost all the quality of large scale


industry and therefore Skylead group of companies can be called large
scale industry. It’s production is also on large scale because these
company has the monopoly in production of specialty chemicals

TIME KEEPING SYATEM

Time keeping system is nothing but the records of various


aspects like attendance keeping system, various shifts of employees in
an organization etc.

A punching card is kept with each & every employee. This card
is punched each and every day by the security when the employee
enters in the company. An employee is allowed to late for maximum 3
days. And further if ha remains absent then his half leave is considered
and when his leave gets completed then his salary is deducted
accordingly.

VARIOUS SHIFTS OF EMPLOYEE IN COMPANY

In Skylead group of companies there are three or four shifts


1. 7am to 3pm
2. 3pm to 11pm
3. 11pm to 7am

 General shift is 9pm to 5.30am

Infrastructure for any company means the creation or


availability of those things that would help in production and
facilitates it’s employee in proper working. There are various

The company has various highly qualified automatic machines.


This machines requires high amount of electricity to work & the
company gets if through PGVCL i.e. PACCHIM GUJRAT VIDDUT
CORPORATION LTMITED.

WATER SUPPLY

The company also have large water requirement. And in order


to meet this large requirement company has it’s own Borewell.

TRANSPORTATION

The company is having very good locality. The place where it is


situated is highway & therefore it has very easy transportation facility.
Any person weather he is customer or visitor can easily find the
industri though he might have visited therefore first time. Therefore
the transportation cost of company is decrease.

ANVIORNMENTAL AWARENESS
Organization is an inseperale part of organization. It has very
crucial roal to play in a society, it gives several benefits to society. In
addition to all these benefits it provides, it also creates environmental
disorders by creating pollution in an atmosphere.

Almost all the industries add to the population but chemical


industries are said of cresting maximum pollution industries,
nowadays undertakes various activities in order to protect
environment. This environment awareness is not found in all the
industries.

Skylead group of companies is aware of their environment


responsibility. It takes due care that environmental disorder should not
be created due to their negligence on various experimental &
production process of various chemicals. Due to their environmental
awareness & due to the care taken by them, the Skylead group of
companies has been given ISO-9000-2001 certificate.

In addition to these Skylead group is also the member of


chemixcel. It is also given DNB certificate from Neatherland. This
certificate is given to the company who follows quality management
system. For this certificate the company has to undergo for audit
system every 6 month.

All the certificate given to Skylead shows that it is an industry


which so not create environmental imbalances & it fulfills its
responsibility towards environment in a well manner.

Recruitment has been regarded as the most important of


personal & administration department, because unless the right types
of people are hired, even the best plans, organization chart & control
system would not do much good. In other words, it is a linking process
bringing together those with & those sinking jobs.

Various company follows various recruitment method. It


depends upon the company’s recruitment procedure & company’s
recruitment policy also. some of the companies gives priorities to
external sources while some gives to internal sources. Skylead group

group of companies follows pear group method for recruitment. Pear
group refers to the reference of exiting employee of unit.

Skylead group of companies do not depends mercly on one


source of or recruitment. It also sicks the help of employment
exchanging order to choose best candidate. This is however not the
end. Many times they even visit to universities in order to find fresh
candidate. In addition to these, they also place advertisement, arrange
for campus interview. They also try to get employees through
employment consultancy.

Skylead group of company also maintains a data bank I.E. a


kind of fil in which they have the records of various applicants. They
also refer to this data bank. But, the mximum weightage for
recruitment. Given by them is on reference of the employee.

The selection procedure is concerned with securing relevant


information about an applicant. This information is secured in a
number of steps or stages. The objectives of selection procedure are to
determine whether applicant meets. The qualification for a specific
job and to choose the applicant who is most likely to perform well in
that job

Selection procedure is essentially a series of steps. In Skylead


group of companies following format of selection is followed.

First of all company receives the bio-data of applicant, then it


fix the data of interview & send call latter for interview to an
applicant. Then interview is held out. Interview may be oral or written.
For fresher candidate both types of interview is compulsory. Short-list
is done after interview & candidate among the entire applicant is
choosed. The selected expectant is given offer to join the job. Then he
is recruited on the job. He join his job.

Then after induction & orientation of employee is done. He is


primarily hired on probationary basis & if he is good at his job is
confirmed & he may start doing his job.

INDUCTION

Induction refers to the proper introduction of the newly


employed in his respective department. Proper induction is necessary
so that the employee has not difficulties in his walking in his unit. He

TRAINING OF AN EMPLOYEE IN
COMPANY
Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmed
behavior. It is application of knowledge. It attempts to improve the

current performance on the current job or prepare them for and


intended job.

An employee can current performance on job through effective


training. Training can be given to all categories of an employee. In this
company, every new employee is given training. The maximum
training period for each new employee is for 6 months. If necessary,
exiting employee are also given the training as per the recruitment of
the post trainee.

All the categories of employees in Skylead group of companies


are given training. The training given to the employees in this group
depends upon many factors as given bellow.
 Basic educational qualification.
 Job knowledge.
 General knowledge & awareness.
 Character traits & personality.
 Experience.

METHOD OF TRAINING

In Skylead group of companies, the training is given through


demonstration by their supervisors & seniors. The employees are also
provided the handbooks & the study materials as a training instrument.
The company also maintains the training records. They have system of
faculty feedback from, training evolution sheet & training report. The
training expense of the company is 1.5 per annum.

PRAMOTION & TRANSFER POLICIES


Promotion means an improvement in payment prestige,
responsibilities of an employee within his/her organization. Every
company has its own fixed policy regarding transfer & promotion. But
Skylead group of companies are a private company therefore there is
no fixed policies for transfer & promotion of an employee. It depends
totally upon the management & its perception.

The companies do transfer of their employees from one unit to


another unit also depending upon the recruitment of the company.
Transfer is also done from one department to other department. For
example the employee of Skylead chemicals is done to Skylink
chemicals as per the recruitment.

Promotion is a important instrument for motivation. Promotion


means providing the existing employee of lower post with the higher
post. It satisfies the human need for status & recognition. And if the
employees in the organization are satisfied with their post &
recognition then their efficiency can increase. It provide re-orientation
to the employee.

Promotion in Skylead group of companies depends upon the


performance appraisal analysis. But, they are also granted on the basis
of seniority & merit of the employee. Thus it can be said that
promotion & transfer both collective depends upon the performance &
the requirement of the company.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL
Performance appraisal is a process of evaluating an employee’s
performance on a job in terms of requirement. The performance
appraisal is to done according to the policy of the company. Different
companies have different performance appraisal system.

In Skylead group of companies performance appraisal is done


according to the rating method. In this method every employee is rated

according to its capabilities & then based in it he is given the


promotion.

Skylead group of company follows rating because, this method


provides kind of scale of measuring absolute different between
individuals in respect of crucial job related factors like, quantity &
quality of work, co-operation safety etc.

Performance appraisal is done once in a year by a company.


Moreover the company follows performance appraisals perform. The
direction provided by performance appraisal is utilized as a strength to
correct the strength to correct the weakness of an employee.

Performance appraisal is given in different form in a Skylead


group of companies. It may be simply in the form praising an
employee or it may be also in form of providing promotion to the
employees. In Skylead group of companies mainly performance
appraisal are done on the basis of target achievements, achieved by an
employee. Rewards in form of performance appraisal are also based
on target achievement.

GRIEVANCE HANDLING PROCEDURE

Grievances are complaints, which the categories of an employee


have in a company. Various companies have various grievances
handling procedure. Many companies have separate department to
handle the grievances of the company.

Skylead group of companies do not have separate grievances


handling department. All the complaints are handled by the personnel

& administration department itself. This group of company follows a


direct grievances handling method because there are vary less
complaints & dispute in the company. All the department heads will
arrange to keep & maintain ‘‘grievance register’’ which contains the
detail of receipt of complaints, name of the employee, brief
description of complaint, readressal of grievance.

If at all any employee have any problem they can directly do &
meet to the head of personnel & administration department & the
problem is sort out over there. Of suppose if problem is very critical
then one can chief manager with written complaint containing all the
details. The chief manager will get the details entered in to the
register, will further inquiry into the matter, will hear the person
concerned and will discuss with department heads. If still the problem
is nit solved then one can go even to GM with CM who will read all
material in front of chief manager. The decision of CM is final &
binding to the concerned person.

Anybody having any problem can without any hesitation can


talk his problem to his departmental head. This company is having
employee friendly atmosphere thus employees can express their
grievances.

HANDLING ABSENTEEISM
Absenteeism means absence of an employee from work place
when he is scheduled to be work. Absenteeism adversely affects the
business of a company. And therefore there are several rules for
absenteeism in this company & each & every employee of the
company follows these rules.

None of the company can skip from these rules. All the people
in the company equally follow these rules, whether he is manager or a
supervisor a peon. Thus, the rules are equally applicable to all the

people & their is no discrimination followed in these rules. Employees


of this company are given 36 paid leave including 12 paid leaves for
festivals, 7 sick leaves 21-privilege leave and 8 causive. Then too if
any absenteeism of any person is found then salary of the concerned
person is deducted proportionately.

If the person remains absent till half day then his salary is not
deducted but this continued.

For a long time his salary is been deducted.

WAGE & SALARY ADMINISTRATION


Wage & salary refers to the establishment of sound policies and
practices of employee compensation. The basic purpose of wage and
salary administration is to establish and maintain an equitable wage
and salary structure.

The development wage and salary administration has to be done


after the rate ranges have been determined. The wage policy of
different organization is different. Some of the unit pay high rate
because they think that by doing so they can attract the highest caliber
of the labour force.

A sound wage policy is to adopt job evolution programmed in


order to establish fair differentiates in wages based upon differences in
job contents. Besides the basic factors provided by a job description
and job evaluation, those that are usually taken in to consideration for
wage and salary administration are,]

2. Supply and demand for labour.
3. The prevailing Markey rate.

minimum wages act.

This wages satisfies the labour & the owner of the company.

WORKING OF E.S.I. SCHEME


Government has passed various schemes to protect the right of
an employee of industrial worker. Worker of E.S.I. is also one such act
passed by government. In order to provide sickness benefit to workers.
Employee State Insurance Act was passed by government in 1948.
This act is applicable to all non-seasonal factories running with power
& employing 20 or more person. It covers all type of employees-
manual, clerical, supervisory & technical not drawing more than Rs.
2000 as a salary.

This scheme allows 5 types of benefit to worker & their


dependent i.e. medical benefit, maternity benefit, disable benefit,
dependent benefit & funeral benefit.

The employees of Skylead group are not covered under E.S.I.,


but they are covered under oriental insurance as per the scheme of
workmen compensation act, 1923. The act provides for the
compensation to those employees who sustain personnel injuries by
accident arising of their employment. The act does not cover those
employees who are in clerical or administrative capacity in armed
forces on casual forces. State Government is empowered to expand the
application of the act.

The employer is liable to pay the employee in case if employee


meets with some accident causing disablement for more then 3 days.
However no compensation is paid if disablements do not last for more
than 3 days.

EMPLOYEE’S PROVIDENT FUND

Work this act passed in 1953 covering factories employing 50


or more workers in 6 major industries i.e. iron, steal, textile,
engineering, cement paper & cigarettes. These schemes are contribute
& compulsory. These scheme covers all the employees drawing a
salary of thousand or less & who has completed one year’s completed
service & actually for 240 days in a year.

This scheme is a kind of saving scheme. The employee gets


these amount at the old age & up till that amount deducted off as a
P.F. is invested somewhere to get some profit.

Each & every employee of Skylead is covered under provident


fund scheme as per the act 1995 starting from 26, November.

In Skylead group provident fund to the employees is paid in


basic pay + dear allowance collectively. The rate of provident fund
provides is 12% on basic pay + dear allowance i.e. the minimum rate
of P.F. fixed by the government.

The minimum desirable services required in private


organization is of 10 years & the maximum age for provident fund is
50 years.

PROVISION OF BONUS

According to bonus law issued by the government all the


companies are required to pay bonus to it’s employee at least 8033%
of their salary. And following the law of government Skylead group of
companies pay 8.33% bonus to their employee.

Amount of bonus is something that is paid extra to them i.e.


employee. This amount is paid in addition to their salary. Bonus is

provided once in a year to all the employee of Skylead group of


companies.

COLLACTIVE BARGAINING

As we know that there are large numbers of employee in


organization. There is vary much chances of arising of problems in an
organization. When any problem arises between the two parties i.e.
management & employee & if both the parties seat together and find
the solution of problem then these is called collective bargaining. Thus
collective bargaining means the agreement between the two parties.

Skylead group of companies has an employee friendly


environment & therefore, generally no problem arises between the
management & the employees. Then too if at all any problem between
both the parties arise then both parties seat together and talk about the
problem and try to solve the problem. Thus Skylead group of
companies follows good management practices. Not only the company
but also the employee of the company follows good management
practices.

TRADE UNION

Trade union is define as ‘‘A continuous and voluntary


association of salary and wage earner and engaged in whatever
industry or trade formed for safeguarding the interest of it’s member
maintaining or improving the conditions, their location interest and
squiring better relation between them and their employees through
collective bargaining.

In Skylead group of companies there is no trade union because


there is an employee friendly atmosphere in an industry. The entire
employee works together with co-operation, the relation between the
employee and management is also very co-operative. No employee
ever feels the need of TRADE UNION, they work together with very
peacefully.

The main purpose of security is to provide security to the company.

Security department is located on the main gate of the company.


There are 10 people working under security department. The groups of
person work for 24 hour in the company. 24 hour of working of
security department is the strength of the company.

CAPITAL STRUCTURE

Capital structure refers to the composition of capital i.e. the mix


of sources from which the long-term funds require by business are to
be raised. The various sources of long-term capital are in the form of
equity share capital & various reserve fund & investment also
preference share capital.

The capital structure is said to be optimum when the real cost of


each source of financing is identified with an optimum debt & equity
mix, the cost of capital is minimum & market price per share is
maximum.

Optimum capital structure is a theoretical concept; appropriate


capital structure is more realistic concept. And Skylead group of
