RESUMO
ABSTRACT
INTRODUÇÃO
O nervo alveolar inferior é o mais volumoso dos ramos do nervo mandibular. Nasce
abaixo do forame oval, para trás e ligeiramente para fora do nervo lingual. Em seu trajeto,
primeiro percorre a região zigomática e depois penetra no interior da mandíbula, alojando-
se no canal mandibular. A anatomia moderna demonstrou que, no interior deste canal, o
nervo possui uma disposição plexiforme, sendo composto por um número variável de
filetes, ligados por numerosos ramos comunicantes. Dentre eles, os filetes dentais estão
destinados a cada uma das raízes dos dentes molares e pré-molares. Os nervos mentual
e incisivo são ramos terminais, sendo que o último dá origem a filetes dentais para os
incisivos e canino7, 9.
Existem inúmeras técnicas intrabucais para anestesiar os nervos que atuam na
mandíbula. As técnicas de bloqueio direta e indireta destacam-se por sua simplicidade de
execução. A última apresenta a vantagem de numa única punção, em três diferentes
posições, anestesiar os nervos alveolar inferior, lingual e bucal. Os pontos de referência
para sua correta execução incluem: a borda anterior do ramo ascendente da mandíbula,
a linha milohioidea, a face oclusal dos molares inferiores e os pré-molares do lado oposto
(Figura 1). É necessário que o cirurgião-dentista domine uma dessas técnicas e tenha um
perfeito conhecimento anatômico da região12, 15.
