EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Amani Public Charter School (APCS) is the first public charter school located in Mount Vernon,
New York. APCS will open September 2011 with 5th grade students and will grow to serve
grades 5-8 over the next four years.

The mission of the Amani Public Charter School is to provide 100% of Mount Vernon students
who attend the school from the 5th through 8th grade with the academic and critical thinking skills
necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college and the career of their choice.
APCS graduates are academically accomplished, intellectually curious, and civically engaged
young people who tackle challenges diligently and creatively.

Position Summary
The Executive Director’s primary responsibilities include safeguarding and promoting the
school’s mission and philosophy; ensuring adequate resources; engaging proactively in local
communications and outreach to build the school’s reputation and visibility; and developing and
ensuring sound education, business and operations practices.

Qualifications
• Master’s Degree
• Minimum of three to five years experience teaching similar student population
• Understands the purpose and structure of charter schools in New York State
• Passionate and completely dedicated to Amani Public Charter School’s mission and a
steadfast belief that all students deserve preparation for the college of their choice.
• An entrepreneurial spirit, who embraces the opportunity for creativity and hard work
inherent in a start-up.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience working effectively with a board of directors and leading and motivating a
team toward a common goal
• Proven success developing positive relationships with parents and community
• Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, solutions oriented, detail-driven with excellent
organizational skills.

Compensation: Compensation and benefits package will be competitive and commensurate with
experience.
