WHAT DO I BRING TO CLASS?


1. Binder with dividers
2. Black and White Composition Notebook-Lab Notebook
3. Pen and pencil
4. Highlighter
5. Calculator with scientific notation
6. One ream of copying paper (one time)
7. One roll of paper towels (one time)

WISH LIST MATERIALS: The following materials are completely optional.


They would be greatly appreciated. They will be donated to the classroom to
create a class set for everyone to use.

• Scissors
• Cheap Calculator

HOW WILL I BE GRADED?


50% Exams
30% Labs, quizzes, homework, class work, Online Quizzes etc….
10% Class Participation/Homework Stamp Sheet
What is a hw stamp sheet? You will receive stamps for homework if at
least 80% of work is shown. At the end of the 6 weeks, I will pick up your hw
stamp sheet and you will receive a grade base don how many stamps you have
collected

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM ABSENT?


1. Refer to class website Even if you are absent, you are expected to have an
agenda for each day in your notebook!
2. Collect any missed handouts/notes from absent crate or online
3. Quizzes and Labs can ONLY be made up before school from 7:30am-
9:30am. Other make up times may be available but only if requested
ahead of time.
4. Any work that must be checked or graded (such as a lab report or NB page)
should be put in the absent box located next to my computer

NOTE: It is not appropriate to make up work during class time. Please arrive
early to class, drop by before school or during lunch. Remember, you can
access all class schedules from any computer with internet.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO MAKE UP WORK FOR AN EXCUSED ABSENCE?


You will have as many days as you are absent to make up the work that you
missed. Labs must be made up within one week before school from 8am –9am.
If this is not possible you MUST notify me immediately! It will be your
responsibility to arrange make-up work.

Example: You are absent on Monday when we performed a lab


YOU should:
1. Have your pre-lab ready to be stamped when you come in to
make up the lab from 8am-9am.
2. Perform lab before the next Monday
3. When finished, place lab notebook along with your grading
sheet in the grade box (next to my desk)
4. After I grade your work, I will return your NB to your classes
outbox (located next to the phone)

DO YOU ACCEPT LATE WORK?


1 Day Late: Highest grade will be a 70
2 Days Late: Highest grade will be a 50

This a Science Department Policy
WILL I BE EXPECTED TO DO INDEPENDENT RESEARCH IN THIS CLASS?
YES! As an honor student you will be required to do an independent
research project each six weeks. Students may also choose to do a science fair in
lieu of six-weeks project, similar to your Biology project. Regular IPC students
WILL ALSO be doing research projects but they will be assessed
differently with different expectations.

Example Research projects:


• Mousetrap Car
• Roller Coaster Physics
• Solar Ovens
• How Things Work
• Electric House
• Chemical Warfare

CLASSROOM RULES:
1. Be on time: You will not be allowed to enter class late without a receipt
from the tardy table
2. Be respectful of yourself, others and school property: This means no
talking when others are talking; no profanity; no horseplay; leave the class
as you found it, no writing on desk, etc.
3. Be safe: You will be expected to follow all safety rules and directions.
Failure to do so will result in removal from the lab and a zero for the day.
Note: Eating and drinking in a laboratory setting is a serious safety risk!
4. Be prepared to learn: You will be expected to follow all classroom
procedures and come to class with all required materials.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO BREAK ANY OF THESE RULES:


1st time: Verbal warning
2nd time: Before school/lunch detention and phone call home
3rd time: Discipline referral
*** Severe and dangerous disruption will result in a discipline referral*******

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

When you enter the classroom:


1. Pick up any handouts that we will be using for the day in front of the
classroom
2. Put your backpack and other items not needed for class under your desk.
3. Take out your notebook and copy the agenda for the day from the board
4. Update Notebooks
When you leave the classroom:
1. Clean lab station. This includes returning everything to the way that you
found it.
2. Pick up any trash around your seat.
3. Be seated. I will dismiss you once everyone has finished all of the above.

If you are caught cheating:


1. You will be given a zero for the assignment, test etc. and a referral will
be written.
2. Cheating includes copying of homework, lab reports and exams/quizzes.

Remember:
Bad planning on your part
does not necessarily constitute
an emergency on my part.

Rules are made to create an orderly and productive environment for you as well
as your fellow classmates to learn. But being successful in this class will require
much more than following the rules.

Dwell not on the past. Use it to illustrate a point, then leave it behind. Nothing really
matters except what you do now in this instant of time. From this moment onward
you can be an entirely different person, filled with love and understanding, ready
with an outstretched hand, up lifted and positive in every thought and deed..
