An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage

Ignorance and Violence
Compiled by: Abu Yusuf Khaleefah

❁❁❁
Zaheer Uddin (may Allah guide him) the Executive Director of Majlis Ash-Shura of
Metropolitan New York (aka Islamic Leadership Council of New York) writes:

Assalaamu Alaikum!

The Middle East is Changing, Insha Allah!

“Alhamdulillah, every American Muslim is witnessing the freedom struggle going on

for last few weeks in the Arab world. After the fall of tyranny in Tunisia, now the
people in Egypt, Jordan and Yemen have arise. Despite the use of brutal force, the
protesters are coming out in hundreds of thousands seeking their basic rights.

A revolution is unfolding. We must make special du'aa for their success from the
dhulm, the persecution, suppression and unjust rule of all these dictators. And also we
should write and call to our government officials and elected representatives to press
these tyrants to stop the killing and torture.”

as Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

From that which is seen above from the words of Zaheer Uddin, Executive Director
of the Majlis ash-Shura of Metropolitan New York, aka Islaamic Leadership Council
of New York, Uniting Muslims for a better world, there are clear errors in that which
has been written. These errors are in total opposition to the Book of Allaah, the

Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and the way of
Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all).

To start I ask Allaah to make that which is written here a means of benefit for
Muslims here in the NYC area as well as other places. I ask Allaah to guide my words
and to make them in accordance to His book, the Sunnah of His messenger and the
way of the Companions. I ask Allaah to rectify the leaders of the Muslim Countries
and make them individuals who are just and implement His commands amongst
themselves as well as the people, Aameen.

The brother Zaheer Uddin (may Allaah guide him) after giving the greetings wrote in
bold letters:

"The Middle East is Changing, Insha Allah!"

When you say that "The Middle East is changing inshaa Allaah!” how is it
changing, such that it has you saying Inshaa Allaah? Do you mean that the Middle
East is changing towards that which is pleasing to Allaah? Or do you mean that the
Middle East is changing towards Democracy?

If you mean Democracy -and that which is apparent from your words is that you do
mean Democracy- then indeed this is an evil affair. We should all know that
Democracy is considered Kufr Akbar (Major Disbelief) in Islaam. The reason being,
when you look at the definition of Democracy as well as its fundamentals, it's clear
that it is rejection of the book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad
(sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).

Here is the meaning of Democracy as mentioned in Wikipedia:

"Democracy is a political form of government in which governing power is derived

from the people, by consensus (consensus democracy), by direct referendum (direct
democracy), or by means of elected representatives of the people..."

Please refer to the link below for more information and the history of Democracy.

When you read the history of Democracy and its principles, one will see that this is
man-made laws and principles which are in direct contradiction to the Qur'aan and
Sunnah. We find within that which has been mentioned about Democracy by the
disbelievers themselves, that there are many contradictions within it. The disbelievers
who call to Democracy hold that this is the best way of life that all should live by.
Allaah has mentioned in His Book:

"Do they not then consider the Qur'aan carefully? Had it been from other than
Allaah, they would surely have found therein many contradictions." (Soorah
an-Nisaa: 82)

"And who is better in judgment than Allaah for a people who have firm Faith."
(Soorah al-Maa-idah: 50)

"Is not Allaah the Best of judges?" (Soorah at-Teen: 8)

We see from the speech of Allaah The Most High a number of points here:

1. That which is from Allaah is free from contradictions and error.

2. The rules of Allaah are the best rules for mankind to live in accordance to.

3. Allaah is the Best of Judges. Therefore, His rules are to be accepted and not
rejected.

As for Democracy, then we see the clear contradictions within its rules and principles,
being that there are "several varieties of democracy." The callers to democracy from the
disbelievers indeed believe that democracy is the best way of life. If a Muslim was to
hold this creed, he/she would have invalidated his/her Islaam.

The rejection of the rules of Allaah, seeing them as not being suitable for these times
goes against Eemaan (faith). Rather this invalidates one's Eemaan. This is what
democracy entails. Allaah has stated:

"But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O
Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no
resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission."
(Soorah an-Nisaa: 65)

The noble scholar of Tafseer Shaykh Abdur-Rahmaan bin Naasir as-Sa'dee (may
Allaah have mercy upon him) said regarding this verse:

"...Making the Messenger the judge in the disputed affairs is on the level of Islaam.
There not being any aversion in the heart to the judgment is the level of Eemaan.
Submitting with full submission is the level of Ihsaan. Therefore, whoever completes
these levels has completed all the levels of the religion. Whoever leaves off this
method of establishing the mentioned judgment, being one who doesn't hold to it (as
being the truth) is a disbeliever. Whoever leaves it off along with him holding to it (as
being the truth) then he has the ruling of being one who is disobedient."

Democracy does not see Islaam as being the sole truth. Democracy does not see
Islaam as being the only way of life that is accepted by Allaah. This is clear opposition
and denial of that which Allaah has said:

ِ ۡ ِ‫ٱ‬
"Truly, the religion with Allaah is Islaam." (Soorah Aali I'mraan: 19)

"And whoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, it will never be accepted of
him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers." (Soorah Aali I'mraan:
85)

No way of life is accepted by Allaah except for al-Islaam. As for Judaism, Christianity,
Buddhism, Atheism, Darwinism, Socialism, Capitalism, Communism, Secularism,
Democracy and other than that which has been mentioned, none of it will be
accepted by Allaah being that it is not Islaam. Perhaps one may say:

"Democracy is divided into two categories. The first category being -The
ruling of the society by way of the society itself-which is clear disbelief. The
second being -The society picking their government-this is Islaam."

Firstly, in response to this statement, just because someone calls something Islaamic,
it doesn't mean that, that is the case. For names do not change the reality of the
affairs.

Islaam is that which comes from Allaah. Islaam is that which is found in the Qur'aan
and the Sunnah. As for Democracy, then as you have already seen from clicking on
the above links and reading the information, one knows that Democracy is man-
made. Democracy has come from the “Greek political and philosophical
thought." Democracy is from the ways of the Shaytaan. On the authority of
Abdullaah bin Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said:

"The Messenger of Allaah drew a line on the ground and said: This is the path of
Allaah. Then He drew lines on the right of it and the left of it and said: These
different separated paths, upon each path there's a Shaytaan calling to it. Then
He recited the statement of Allaah:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

"And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths,
for they will separate you away from His Path." (Soorah al-An-aam: 153)

(Musnad of Imaam Ahmad # 4142)

We see from the visual demonstration and words of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa
sallam) that the path of Allaah is one path. As for the other paths, at the head of each
one there's a Shaytaan calling to it. So I ask, is democracy the path of Allaah?! Or is it
the path of the Shaytaan?! We know the answer from that which has been taught to us
by the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).

The noble scholar Muhammad al-Amaan al-Jaami (may Allaah have mercy upon him)
mentioned in his treatise entitled "The reality of Democracy and it is not from
Islaam":

"The belief in Secularism and Democracy and other than those two from the
new atheistic theologies and the belief in Allaah conflict with one another.
These two do not come together in the heart of a Muslim. Rather it is a must
that one will take the place of the other because they are two opposites. These
two do not come together nor do they elevate with one another. Rather it is a
must that one leaves and the other takes its place." (p.g. 20-21)

The brother Zaheer Uddin mentioned:

“Alhamdulillah, every American Muslim is witnessing the freedom struggle

going on for last few weeks in the Arab world."

Indeed all of the praise is due to Allaah in all situations, good and bad. At the same
you must know that what we see taking place in the "Muslim World" more so than it
being the "Arab World" is matters which are not pleasing to Allaah. These uprisings
are clearly in opposition to the Islaamic methodology for rectification of the society.
Secondly, how can you consider these prohibited uprisings to be "The Freedom
Struggle" when it's clear that those who are uprising are calling for Democracy?! Do

you not see that the people are struggling to remove one form of oppression to bring
about another?! Is it from Islaam that we rectify our affairs with wrong, evil, and Kufr
Akbar?! Allaahu mus ta'aan!

Did not the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) say:

"Whoever introduces something into our affair (i.e. Islaam) that is not from it,
it is rejected." (Bukhaari and Muslim)

"Whoever does an action that doesn't have our affair (i.e. Islaam) over it, it is
rejected." (Muslim)

That which you call "The Freedom Struggle" is an innovated matter amongst the
Muslimeen which Allaah and His Messenger did not give any authority for. Being that
that is the case, it is rejected by Allaah. This is so, even if the people have good
intentions! Good intentions are not enough for ones actions to be accepted by Allaah.
Rather the deed must fulfill two conditions:

1. Ikhlaas (Sincerity)
2. It-tibaa’ (Following the Qur'aan and Sunnah)
Allaah has mentioned:

"So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness
and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord." (Soorah al-Kahf:
110)

The noble scholar of Tafseer al-Haafith Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy upon him)
mentioned in his comments on this verse regarding the statement of Allaah:

“Let him work righteousness.”

This means that which is in accordance to the legislation. As for the statement of
Allaah:
___________________________________________________________________________________7
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence
www.SalafyInk.com
_____________________________________________________________________________________

“And associate none as a partner with his Lord.”

It is that which the face of Allaah is sought alone, there being no partners for Him.
These are the two pillars for the accepted action."

The brother Zaheer Uddin (may Allaah guide him) said:

"After the fall of tyranny in Tunisia, now the people in Egypt, Jordan and
Yemen have arise."

The uprising that took place in Tunisia should be looked at for what it is according to
Islaam, and that is "Khurooj (Rebellion)". This "fall of tyranny" and the arising of
the people in these Muslim countries is just what the Prophet forbade.

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"When rebuking an evil necessitates that there will be more evil, as well as that which
is more hated to Allaah and His Messenger (salallaahu alayhi wa sallam), then it is not
justified to rebuke that evil. This is even if Allaah hates that evil and the doers of it.
This is similar to rebuking the kings and those in authority by way of rebelling against
them. Indeed it is the origin of every evil and Fitnah (tribulation) until the end of time.
The companions sought the permission of the Messenger of Allaah to fight against
the rulers who delay the Salaah (prayer) beyond its proper time. They said:

“Shall we not combat them?”

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said in response:

“No. As long as they establish the prayer.” (Muslim)

The Prophet also said:

“Whoever sees from his leader that which he dislikes, then let him be patient
and do not remove himself from his (the leader's) obedience.” (Muslim)

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Whoever contemplates over that which has taken place in Islaam with regards to the
major trials and tribulations as well as the lesser trials and tribulation, sees that this has
taken place due to the neglect of this principle. Likewise, it is due to the lack of
patience with the (lesser) evil. Therefore, seeking to remove it brings about that which
is greater than it (in evil). The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) use to
see the greatest of evil in Makkah, but he didn't have the ability to change it.

Rather when Allaah allowed Makkah to be conquered and it became the abode of
Islaam, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) had the firm resolve to change the
Ka'bah and restore it upon the foundations of Ibraheem (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).
What prevented him from doing so although he had the ability was the fear of that
which was greater in evil taking place. That would have been due to the Quraysh not
being able to bear that, since they recently accepted Islaam and just left the state of
disbelief. Based upon this (principle here), the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) did
not allow the rebuking of the leaders by way of force due to the greater evil that will
take place as a result of that." (I'laamul-Muwaaqi'een 3/4)

There are many other narrations which establish the prohibition of uprising and
overthrowing the Muslim rulers. Here are a few. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa
sallam) said:

"You will see after my death affairs that you dislike from the leaders."

The companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) said:

"What do you command us to do oh Messenger of Allaah?"

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Give them their rights and ask Allaah for your rights." (Bukhaari and
Muslim)

He also said:

___________________________________________________________________________________9
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence

_____________________________________________________________________________________

"There will come after my death leaders who are not guided by my guidance,
nor do they comply with my Sunnah. There will be amongst them men whose
hearts are the hearts of devils in the bodies of human beings."

Hudhayfah bin al-Yamaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet (sallallaahu
alayhi wa sallam):

"What shall I do oh Messenger of Allaah if I was to reach that time?"

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said in response:

"Hear and obey the leader. Even if your back is beaten and your wealth is
taken. Hear and obey!" (Bukhaari and Muslim)

Perhaps one may respond by saying, "There's a narration in the Musnad of Ahmad which
proves that a person can fight the leaders if they take their wealth."

On the authority of Abdullaah bin Amr (may Allaah be pleased with them both) that the
Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

"Whoever is killed by way of oppression defending his wealth, he is a martyr."

The response is that the scholars of Islaam have mentioned that the rulers are
exempted from this narration. Ibn al-Mundhir stated:

"That which the scholars of Islaam are upon is that the man has the right to defend
that which has been mentioned if it is sought by way of oppression without any
details. The scholars of Hadeeth have agreed that the ruler is exempted from this.
This is due to the narrations that have come commanding the people with being
patient with the evil of the ruler and not rising up against him." (al-Jaami' lil-Ahkaam
al-Qur'aan by al-Qurtubi 6/157 and Fathul-Baari 5/124)

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said:

___________________________________________________________________________________10
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence
www.SalafyInk.com
_____________________________________________________________________________________

"Perhaps it's not known that a group rebelled against the ruler except that there came
about a greater evil in their rebellion than the one they were seeking to remove."
(Minhaajus-Sunnah 3/391)

As for the statement of the brother:

"Despite the use of brutal force, the protesters are coming out in hundreds of
thousands seeking their basic rights."

Is the way of the protesters the best way to get their rights?! Is this what the Prophet
(sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) commanded those who are being oppressed by their rulers
with?! Already we have read that which the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam)
commanded with. There's no harm in repeating the statement for verily the reminder
benefits the believer.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Give them their rights and ask Allaah for your rights." (Bukhaari and
Muslim)

The brother Zaheer Uddin (may Allaah guide him to that which is correct, Aameen) stated:

"A revolution is unfolding. We must make special du'aa for their success from
the dhulm, the persecution, suppression and unjust rule of all these dictators."

Here we have clear support and encouragement for ignorance and violence. It has
already been establish by way of the text from the Qur'aan and Sunnah that what we
see taken place from the uprising, protesting, seeking to overthrow the government,
and seeking to establish democracy, is clearly prohibited. Indeed it's a shame that the
"Executive Director Majlis Ash-Shura of Metropolitan New York, aka Islamic
Leadership Council of New York" can send out an email which contains the likes
of that which has been seen of opposition to the Qur'aan and Sunnah! Know that the
Majlis Ash-Shura of Metropolitan New York does not represent the views of the
Qur'aan and the Sunnah with the understanding of the Companions on many issues,

___________________________________________________________________________________11
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence
www.SalafyInk.com
_____________________________________________________________________________________

and this is one of them. They do not represent all of the Muslimoon here in the New
York Metropolitan area.

I can say with a surety that Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah (The people who follow the
Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and are united together
upon it) are free from that which has been mentioned in this email. Indeed we see a
clear misconception in the above email that many from amongst the Muslimeen hold
in connection to rectifying the society. And that misconception is:

"The reason the Muslimoon are in the state that they're in is because of the tyrannical rulers.
Therefore, they must be removed and overthrown in order to bring about change."

In response to this misconception, I mention the words of Allaah:

َ ‫وا يَ ۡك ِسب‬
‫ُون‬ ْ ُ‫ضا بِ َما َكان‬ َ ‫ض ٱلظﱠ ٰـلِ ِم‬
َ ۢ ‫ين بَ ۡع‬ َ ‫َو َك َذٲلِ َك نُ َولﱢى بَ ۡع‬
“And thus We do make the Thaalimoon (polytheists and wrong-doers) leaders
of one another, because of that which they used to earn" (Soorah al-An'aam:
129)

We see from the speech of Allaah that wrong-doers are placed over wrong-doers. So
if a people find that the leader is tyrannical and corrupt then this is a punishment
upon the wrong-doers from amongst them. So the leaders are not the sole problem;
rather it's the sinful people!

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah mentioned:

"Contemplate over the wisdom of Allaah the Most High who has placed the kings of
the servants, their rulers and governors to be from the likes of their actions. Rather it
is as if their actions have become manifested in the image of their leaders and kings. If
the people are upright, their kings are upright. If they are just, their kings are just with
them. If they are corrupt, then their kings and leaders will be corrupt. If trickery and
deception appears amongst the people, then their leaders will be the same. If the
people refuse to fulfill the rights of Allaah upon them and are miserly regarding the

fulfillment of them, their kings will refuse to give them that which is due to them
from their rights and they will be miserly towards them.

If the people take from the weak that which is not due to them, then their kings will
take from them by force that which they are not entitled to...It is not from divine
wisdom that anyone becomes the leader over the wicked people except for one who is
like them. Being that the first of the Muslimeen were the best of the generations, their
leaders were the same...Rather our leaders are in accordance to our actions and the
leaders of those before us were in accordance to their actions of the people they
governed. Therefore both matters are from that which wisdom necessitates." (Miftaah
Daaris-Sa-aa'dah 2/177-178)

The next point to be addressed is how the brother Zaheer encourages the people to
make "special du'aa" for the Muslimoon to be successful in that which is corrupt?!
The way that the protesters are going about to remove "the dhulm, the persecution,
suppression and unjust rule of all these dictators" is un-Islaamic. Therefore one
cannot make du'aa that the Muslim Protesters are successful in their "Revolution
that's unfolding".

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"The supplication will not cease to be answered for the servant as long as he
doesn't supplicate for the committing of a sin, cutting the ties of kinship, and
as long as he's not hasty."

It was said:

"Oh Messenger of Allaah what does it mean to be hasty?"

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"It is that the person says, ‘I supplicated and supplicated, but I haven't seen
my supplication being answered for me.’ As a result of that, he becomes weary
and leaves off the supplication."(Muslim, Musnad of Ahmad, at-Tirmidhee)

___________________________________________________________________________________13
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence
www.SalafyInk.com
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Know for a fact that supplicating for the success of the protesters' revolution is
supplicating for that which is prohibited in Islaam! And supplicating for that which is
prohibited is a reason why a supplication will not be answered. Why not encourage
the people to supplicate that Allaah give our Muslim brothers and sisters in these
Muslim lands the strength to purify themselves and make a beautiful return back to
the correct practice of Islaam? Do you not know that the reason for the humiliation
that's suffered by us is due to us straying away from the correct practice of Islaam?!
The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

"When you indulge in Ee'nah (transaction of ribaa by way of trickery), grab

hold to the tales of cows, become pleased with agriculture, and abandon
striving for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will send down upon you humiliation and
He will not remove it until you return back to your religion." (Sunan of Abi
Daawud, Authenticated by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah #11)

The prophetic methodology of removing the state of humiliation from ourselves as

Muslimoon is to return back to the religion of Islaam. Know that what is meant by
returning back to our religion is the return to the correct practice of Islaam. We see
the focus being put on a change of leadership in Egypt, but what about the removal
of grave worship that's there in Dusooq and in other places in the villages of Egypt?!
What about the widespread deceit taking place in the market places?! What about the
widespread lying and cheating of the people amongst themselves?! These are things I
personally witnessed in Egypt during my short stay there. Yet people are hollering
about the ruler and the corruption of the Government?! Allaah has mentioned:

"And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have
earned. And He pardons much." (Soorah ahs-Shooraa: 30)

Allaah has also stated:

ۡ‫ُوا َما بِأَنفُ ِسھم‬

ْ ‫ٱَ َال يُ َغيﱢ ُر َما بِقَ ۡو ٍم َحتﱠ ٰى يُ َغيﱢر‬
‫إِ ﱠن ﱠ‬

"Verily! Allaah will not change the (good) condition of a people as long as they
do not change their state (of goodness) themselves (by committing sins and by
being ungrateful and disobedient to Allaah)." (Soorah ar-Ra'd: 11)

This verse can also be understood to mean that Allaah will not change the evil
condition of a people until they change that which is within them!

Also we have the narration of the Messenger of Allaah which directly clarifies the
present fitnah and why it has befallen the people:

On the authority of Abdullaah bin Umar (may Allaah be pleased with them both)

“The Prophet came to us and said:

“Oh group of Muhaajireen (migrants)! There are five matters, if you are
afflicted with them, (then you will be afflicted by the punishment that I will
mention), and I seek refuge with Allaah that you will not reach them. Never
does indecency become apparent amongst a people and they outwardly
practice it except that plagues and diseases will spread amongst them that
were not present amongst their forefathers who have passed. Never do a
people practice fraudulence with the scales except that they will be afflicted
with famine, severe economic hardship, and the evil of the ruler will afflict
them. Never do a people withhold the Zakaah of their wealth except that they
will be prevented from a drop of rain from the heavens. If it wasn't for the
animals they would not be given rain. Never do a people breach the covenant
of Allaah and His Messenger except that Allaah will place their enemies over
them from other than themselves. They will take some of that which is in their
hands. Never do their leaders leave off ruling by that which Allaah has revealed
and choosing from that which Allaah has sent down except that Allaah will
place the harm between them.” (Ibn Maajah, Authenticated by al-Albaani)

The last point I will mention regarding the statement above by the brother Zaheer
Uddin (may Allaah guide him), is that from the methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah wal
Jamaa'ah is that we supplicate for the Muslim rulers.

Supplicating for them is Islaam.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"The religion is naseehah (sincerity/advice)"

The companions (may Allaah be pleased with them all) said:

"For who, oh Messenger of Allaah?"

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"For Allaah, His Book, His messenger, the leaders of the Muslimeen, and
their common folk." (Muslim)

Imaam Ibn Rajab (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"That which is considered naseehah for the leaders of the Muslimeen is to love that
they be upright, guided and just. It is to love that the people be united upon them and
hating that the people separate under them. It is practicing the religion by being
obedient to them in that which is obedience to Allaah. It also consists of hating those
who see the permissibility of rebelling against them. It is the love of honoring them in
that which is obedience to Allaah." (Jaami' al-Uloom wal Hikam)

One of the noble scholars of the past, al-Fudayl bin I'yaad (may Allaah mercy upon him
stated):

"If I had a supplication that was to be answered, I would make it for the
leader."

It was said:

"Why is that oh father of Alee?"

al-Fudayl (may allaah have mercy upon him) responded by saying:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

"When I make duaa for myself it doesn't go beyond me. However when I
make it for the leader, it would be for all. The righteousness of the leader will
be a means of the righteousness of the servants and the land."

Imaam al-Barbahaari (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said in his book "The
Explanation of the Creed":

"We have been commanded to supplicate for them (the Muslim rulers) with that
which is good. We have not been commanded to supplicate against [them]. This is
even in the case where they are oppressive and tyrannical. That is because their wrong
doing is against themselves. However their righteousness is for themselves and the
general masses of the Muslimeen."

Imaam Abu Uthmaan as-Saabooni (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said in his book
"The Creed of the Salaf and The Companions of Hadeeth":

"They (the righteous predecessors) see that supplication should be made for them (the
leaders) that they are given success, righteousness, and widespread justice amongst the
subjects."

This is what we find the early Muslimoon upon with regards to the leader as well as
the scholars of today.

The noble Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated:

"Cursing the rulers upon the pulpits is not from the remedy (for the corruption).
Rather the remedy is making duaa for them that they be guided. It is making duaa for
them that they be given religious success from Allaah. It also includes rectifying the
intentions, the actions, and the inner-self. This is the remedy. That is because cursing
them doesn't increase them in anything except for evil. It doesn't increase them in
good. Cursing them is not from that which is beneficial, it is not from Islaam."
(Fataawaa al-Ulamaa al-Akaabir).

As for the statement of Brother Zaheer Uddin (may Allaah guide him):

"And also we should write and call to our government officials and elected
representatives to press these tyrants to stop the killing and torture."

The question is, what killing and torture are you speaking about and where? If there's
killing and torture coming about due to the unfolding revolution in these lands, then
this is a clear example of why these rebellions and revolutions are prohibited in
Islaam! If you're speaking about other than this and it is established that these things
are taking place, then make duaa for the rulers and the people that Allaah guide them
back to that which is correct. As for contacting the President and other Government
Officials and expressing support for "freedom" and justice in the Middle East, know
that there will be no true freedom and justice except with the practice of Islaam.
Secondly do you not know that the Government has no concern for the
establishment of Islaam in the Muslim countries?!

Don't you know that the Democratic world is on a campaign to democratize the
Muslim world?! Is this not a clear example of modern- day colonization?! The
European countries of the past colonized different parts of the world due to their
belief that the people who they colonized where savages and uncivilized. They
believed that their way of life was superior to that of others. This is similar to what is
taken place today where the Democratic world wants to bring Democracy to the
Middle East.

Why is that? It's simple. They believe that Islaam is not suitable for modern world.
They believe that their Democratic way of life is better than that which Allaah is
pleased with for all of mankind! If there is to be writing to the President and
Government Officials, then let those who are grounded in knowledge write them to
call them to Islaam as the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) did when he sent letters
to the different leaders of the world. These Government Officials are encouraging the
uprisings. They may be the ones secretly behind them and Allaah knows best. In any
event, it should be clear to us what our stance is on these current issues.

Our stance should be an Islaamic one and not an emotional Democratic one. May
Allaah guide all of the Muslimeen to be upon that which He is pleased with, Aameen.
Whatever has been mentioned here that is correct, then the praise is for Allaah alone

and whatever is incorrect is from me and the Shaytaan. Lastly I mention below some
Q and A surrounding the issue of protests.

Fataawa of the Ulamaah Concerning Demonstrations and Protests.

(Translated by Anwar Wright)

All praises are for Allah and may His peace and salutations be on His final prophet
and messenger Muhammad, his family and companions and those who follow them in
goodness until the last day.

Due to what many are witnessing today in the media and in the broadcasts regarding
the issues unfolding in Egypt and other than that in the Islamic world, we wanted to
bring some of the statements of the scholars regarding the affairs of protests and
demonstrations so that the Muslim can be upon clarity in regards to these matters,
and Allah is the owner of success.

1. Fatwa of al-Allaamah al Imaam Abdul Azeez Ibn Baaz - May Allah have
mercy on him:

Q: Is demonstrations and the staging of sit-ins from Jihaad?

A: No, this is an error, this is an error. This is fitnah and this is evil and is NOT okay.

Taken from the tape: “Fataawa al Ulamah Fil Igtiyaalaat Wat Tafjeeraat.”

Q: Are protests and demonstrations by men and women against the rulers and
authorities considered to be from the means of Da'wah?

A: I do not see that demonstrations by men and women are from the solutions rather
I see that they are from the reasons of fitnah and the reasons of evil and from the
reasons of oppressing some people and transgressing upon people without right.

However, the legislated means (of rectifying) is through writing, giving advice, calling
to good through the legislated means which were treaded by the companions of the
Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and those who follow them in goodness and

_____________________________________________________________________________________

which are treaded by the people of knowledge by writing and talking with the Muftee
and the Amir and the Sultaan and calling him and advising him and writing him
without making these things known upon the pulpit and other than that (saying) he is
this or that and he did this or that, and Allah's help is sought.

2. Fatwa of al Allaamah Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al Uthaymeen:

“That which is upon us is to advise as far as we are able. As for showing opposition
and protests in the open, then this is in opposition to what the salaf were upon. And
you have come to know that these things do not have any relation to the Islamic
legislation nor does it have any relation to rectifying affairs, they only cause harm.

The Khaleefah al Ma'moon killed the scholars who did not say the Qur'aan was
created. He killed many of the scholars and forced the people to say this false
statement. However we did not hear Imam Ahmad or other than him from the
Imaams that any one of them held a demonstration or protest in a masjid ever! And
we did not hear that they used to spread his faults so that they can incite the people to
have hatred and rancor and dislike for him.

And we do not support these demonstrations and protests and the likes. We do not
aid them at all! And it is possible to rectify without them.

However there is a must that there are some people from the inside or outside who
secretly have their fingers in these matters and are trying to incite these affairs.

Taken from 'Jareedatul Muslimoon' issue (540) page 10.

3. Fatwa of al Allaamah ash Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzaan:

Q: Are protests and demonstrations from the means of Da'wah in order to solve
problems and the calamities of the Islamic Ummah?

A: Our religion is not a religion of chaos; our religion is a religion of discipline, order
and tranquility. And demonstrations are not from the actions of the Muslims and the
Muslims did not used to know anything about this. The religion of Islam is a religion

___________________________________________________________________________________20
An Advice to Remain Silent to Those Who Support and Encourage Ignorance and Violence

_____________________________________________________________________________________

which is calm and a religion of mercy, there is no chaos in it or disarray or no inciting

fitnah.

This is the religion of Islam. Furthermore rights can be obtained without this way,
however by requesting them in lines with the Islamic legislation and by Islamic means.
These demonstrations incite fitnah, and the spilling of blood and the destruction of
wealth, so these affairs are not permissible.

Taken from the tape “Fataawa al Ulamah Fil Igtiyaalaat Wat Tafjeeraat.”

4. Fatwa of al Allaamah ash Shaykh Ubayd Ibn Abdillah Al Jaabiree

Q: Are demonstrations and assassinations in the Islamic countries or the disbelieving

countries a means for rectification of the Islamic Ummah?

A: The person of Sunnah strives to correct a situation in accordance to the legislative

text and from that is advising the ruler, and calls to coming together and being one
under his authority, and strives to return those people whose hearts have fled from
him back to loving him.

Also they command the good and forbid the evil, all in accordance to what the
Islamic legislation necessitates. As for the people of innovation and desires, their only
desire is to overturn the (good) of a situation and to demolish it. And this is the
actions of the Khawaarij and the result is the spilling of blood, violation of the honor,
stealing and robbery, making the paths frightening, the causing of chaos, the departure
of safety and division.

So the Sunnah is Allah's favor on His creation, and the affair of the servants or the
lands will never be rectified except with it. As Wahb Ibn Kaysaan (may Allah have mercy
on him) never used to stand from his sitting until he said to his companions, from them
being Imaam Maalik (may Allah have mercy on him) and he was the one who narrated this
from him:

“Know that the latter part of this Ummah will not be rectified except with that which
rectified it in the beginning.”

Al Asbagh said to Imam Maalik: What he intend by that? Maalik (may Allah have mercy
on him) said:

“It means the fundamentals of the religion and Taqwa.”

So this is one thing.

The second thing is regarding Da'wah. The Da'wah of Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jama'ah and
they are the Salafees and they are the saved sect and the victorious group and they
people of narration, their Da'wah is based upon softness, and gentleness and
conducting affairs in a good manner, and using wisdom in Da'wah in a way that is
better. So demonstrations and assassinations is not of this sort, rather it is violence.

And assassinations are from the way of the Khawaarij and the Sabaiyyah who came
before them and others from the people of desires; rather it is from the actions of the
Kuffaar.

Taken from the tape “Fataawa al Ulamah Fil Igtiyaalaat Wat Tafjeeraat.”
