Potential market for the organic fertilizer

 Weighted average arable land of

world: ~40% of land area, whereas
India is fortunate to have ~61% of
land area as arable land i.e.
1,697,000 square kilometers
 Weighted average organic farming in
world: 242,708.0 hectares (Total =
21,358,307 hectares), whereas
organic farming in India is just
41,000 hectares
 Chemical fertilizer consumption in
India: 16,122,580 metric tons, which
could be reduced by the use of
organic fertlizer

Project Experience-I

 Village : Bhitmudrak
 Biogas Plant : KVIC Floating dome 85 cum/day x 2 with GPRS
 Telescopic Length of pipeline : 2500 m serving to 121 households
 Completion date : March 07
Project Uniqueness-I

 First time the model project based in Bhitbhudrak showed the importance of social
engineering along with technology to make biogas a success.
 The traditional KVIC design was modified.
 Gas pressure regulating system (GPRS): with the help of GPRS the gas is distributed to
the 121 house holds at equal pressure even at far distance.
 The telescopic length of pipeline in the village is 2500 mtrs.

Socio-economic benefit

The villagers are facilitated with cleaner and consistent source of energy for cooking.
Improved economics of village:
By way of providing more earnings from dung.
By way of improved crop production because of use of organic fertilizer.
Improved health and hygiene:
Providing smoke free atmosphere into kitchen.
Providing cleaner environment in to village.
Project Experience-II

 Village : Vegam
 Biogas Plant : KVIC Floating dome 85 cum/day with common sanitatio
 Telescopic Length of pipeline : 1017 m
 No of connections : 60 households
 Completion date : October 08
Project Uniqueness-II

 Feedstock is cow dung with Night soil

Socio-economic benefit
 Effective means for the sanitary disposal of human excreta
 Due to decomposition of night soil in biogas unit the most of the disease causing
organisms are killed.
 The problem of waste disposal is solved at the family level itself
 The villagers could get the cooking gas along with organic fertilizer in form of vermi-
compost
Project Experience-III

 Place : Bakrol farm, Near Vadodara

 Biogas Plant : Modified Upflow Anaerobic Blanket V2 (MUASB V2) of 250 m3
 Completion date : February 09
Project Uniqueness-III

 Capable of handling multiple feedstock

 Single Digester in place of two digesters

 Solid concentration variation from 0.1 % to 10 %

 High solid retention time and low Hydraulic retention time

 Planned slurry tapping for manure management

 Water saving by recycling by partial recycling

 The high SRT and low HRT provision allows the digester to perform well at even lower

temperatures, eliminating the need for feed heating system or internal heating system.

Low Pressure Water Scrubbing

The raw biogas is enriched with

the help of indigeneous low
pressure water scrubbing
technology
Since the end use point is far
away (around 15 Kms) from the
plant location, the enriched gas,
equivalent to CNG is filled into
cylinder cascades at high pressure
and transported to the canteen for
end use.
Upgraded biogas is also filled in
the vehicle

Biogas enrichment system

at village bakrol, Vadodara, Gujarat
Capacity: 20 cum/hr
Cascade filling
Vehicle filling

Capacity 20 m3 raw biogas per hour

End use: Cooking
Why Low Pressure Water Scrubbing?

 Rotary blowers are more reliable than reciprocating

compressors
 Less maintenance
 No lubrication required
 Safe
 No hassles of approval for Low-Scrubb working under 1 barg
 Simplicity in operation
 High instrumentation can be avoided
 No steady state condition to be reached
 Most suitable for rural environment
 Low investment cost
