Processing and Attorney Review
The Challenges:
A Fortune 500 client needed assistance in utilizing Early Case Assessment (ECA) strategies,
efficient processing, and to replace their current staffing agency that was not working up to
the level needed for their current document review. Because this was a complex IP case,
sophisticated issue coding was necessary, along with responsiveness, privilege, and
confidentiality analysis. The client had a lot of data and fact discovery was closing in a few
short months.
The Solution:
BlueStar was able to take the client’s 596 gigabytes of raw data and cull it down to a
reasonable 102 gigabytes for a review hosted on BlueStar servers. From this reduced
dataset, 210,884 electronic documents were reviewed 1,388,980 pages were produced.
BlueStar’s attorney reviewers provided unmatched productivity and per-document cost
savings – reviewing the documents at a 74 documents per hour pace per reviewer, with a
review cost of $.68 per document.
The Benefits:
With our advanced workflow, project management, and BlueStar Certified attorney
reviewers, the client realized significant savings over the costs they would have amassed
with their outside counsel or other staffing agency performing the review. The comparison
with the traditional staffing agency is clear – BlueStar attorney reviewers outpaced their
staffing agency counterparts by nearly 2 to 1 in productivity (74 v. 41 document per hour)
and cut the per document review in half ($.68 v. 1.27 per document reviewed).
The comparison of costs for BlueStar to perform the review as opposed to outside counsel is
even more impressive. At a blended rate for review to have outside counsel associates review
the documents ($250 per hour), the per reviewed document cost would have been $4.04.
By using BlueStar instead of outside counsel, the client saved 85% on the document review.
Value Added:
Since we do more, BlueStar has the opportunity to save our clients more as well. BlueStar
saved this client on monthly data hosting charges by discounting it by 75% during the
pendency of the document review. The client also received approx. 20% off of BlueStar’s
competitive pricing for culling and processing where they had preferred pricing.
