Guidelines for Research Candidates

Courses
• As far as possible, Masters Level courses prescribed for the candidates should
be from regular courses on offer by the University.

• The regular courses need to be compulsorily audited by the candidate and


examination taken along with regular students in consultation with COE, and seek
approval from Office of Academic Research.

• For contact courses and courses not on offer by the university, the syllabi to be
designed by the respective committees responsible, i.e., GTC / DC etc., and credits
assigned in consultation with COE and approval from Office of Academic Research.

• Examination and evaluation of contact courses and courses not on offer by university
to be conducted by the respective members of the responsible committees (GTC / DC
etc.,), in consultation with COE and seek approval from Office of Academic
Research.
• Prescribed Course work to be completed at the earliest so that relevant research work
can be initiated after acquiring the basic foundation required for the research work.

• Minimum ‘C ’ grade in each of the prescribed course and a minimum CGPA of 7.5
of all courses is mandatory (For M.S. Program)

• Minimum 50% in each of the prescribed course (For Ph D Program)

For M.Phil Candidates


Step I

• Submit Proforma for Registration


• Joining Report
• Proposed Topic (Brief Description 1 page – Detailing Why and How?)
• Issue of Office Memo. - Provisional Registration by Off. Acad. Res. (which is the
Date of Registration)

Step II

• Course work and Research Topic - Prescribed by Guide, Additional Faculty Member
from School & Director (minimum 3 courses), to be approved by Off. Acad. Res.

Step III

• Completion of Coursework to be followed by dissertation work.


• Submission

Step IV

• Desirable for candidate to have publications in refereed Journal


• Colloquium in respective school.
• Synopsis
• Acceptance by Off. Acad. Res.
• Evaluation by External Examiner
• Final Viva-Voce
• Award of the Degree.

Duration

• Full Time - min. 1 yr & max. 1½ yrs.


• Part Time - min. 1½ yrs & max. 2 yrs.

Mandatory Requisites

• Fees to be paid every year from the date of registration (till the submission of
Dissertation)
• Copy of receipt to be submitted to Office, Academic Research to facilitate
processing
For M.S [By Research] Candidates
Step I

• Thesis submission
• Evaluation by External Examiner
• Final Viva-Voce

Duration

• Full Time - Min. 2 yrs & Max. 2½ yrs. (GTC may extend period not more than 1
year)
• Part Time - Min. 3 yrs & Max. 3½ yrs. (GTC may extend period not more than 1
year)
(If not submitted at the end of extended Period their registration shall be cancelled)

Mandatory Requisites

• Fees to be paid every year from the date of registration (till the submission of
dissertation)
• Copy of receipt to be submitted to Research Office.
• Every 6 months candidate has to submit the Half yearly progress report with
recommendations from concerned School

For Ph.D Candidates


Step I

• Submit Proforma for Registration


• Joining Report
• Proposed Topic (Brief Description 1 page – Detailing Why and How?)
• Issue of Office Memo. - Provisional Registration by Off. Acad. Res. – Date of
Registration
• Formation of Doctoral Committee, DC and approved by Off. Acad. Res.

Step II

• Course work relevant to topic of research to be prescribed by DC (Min. 4 courses).


• At least 50% in each prescribed course is mandatory
• Coursework should be completed within a year (6months grace period may be
allowed by Off. Acad. Res. )
• If the registrant fails even in a second attempt their registration will be cancelled
(second chance only for the registrant completed within a limited period)

Step III

• Comprehensive Viva to be Completed within 1½ yrs or maximum 2 yrs


• Syllabus to be framed by Guide & Director and should not repeat the coursework and
should be relevant to research topic. (to be approved by DC)
• After successful completion of CV candidacy may be confirmed.
• If the candidate fails, may be allowed to reappear within 4 months or max. 6 months.
• If the candidate fails in second attempt also, then registration will be cancelled

Step IV

• Desirable for candidate to have publications in International Journal


• Colloquium in respective School - minutes, attendance sheet to be sent to Off. Acad.
Res.
• Draft copy of Synopsis to be approved by the DC
• After Synopsis approval meeting, candidate should submit 6 copies of Synopsis and 4
copies of Thesis in the prescribed format.

Step V

• Thesis submission
• Evaluation by External Examiners
• Final Viva-Voce
• Award of the Degree

Duration

• Full Time - Min. 2 yrs & Max. 5 yrs. (DC may extend period not more than 1 year)
• Part Time - Min. 3 yrs & Max. 6 yrs. (DC may extend period not more than 1 year)
