INVITATION TO MYANMAR TRADITIONAL HTAMA-NHE-FESTIVAL

On March 6, 2011 (Sunday), Vezayantar kyaung will host a Myanmar traditional hta-ma-nhe festival.
Theravada Buddhist Association of America (TBAA) cordially invites you to please come and enjoy the
hta-ma-nhe.

In Myanmar , the month of Ta-po-twe (February) is the season for harvesting and new crops. Just as
our Kachin and Karen nationals celebrate this time of the year with their ethnic new crop celebration and the
Ma-Naw festival, the Burmese nationals also have a tradition of celebrating the time of the new crop with barn
storing festival and hta-ma nhe festival, including the offering to Sanghas and guests hta-ma-nhe meal made
from the sticky rice, a product of their farms.

Ashin Kaodinna became the first disciple to achieve enlightenment after hearing the Dhammackka
discourse because he had offered the first product of every one of the nine stages of harvest of crops from his
farm. Buddhists have traditionally shown belief of his example, and have thus established this hta-ma-nhe of-
fering using the hard-earned rice products of their farms.

TBAA is organizing this Myanmar traditional hta-ma-nhe festival for the knowledge and benefit of
our Myanmar youth and children who are in the United States, and to preserve and propagate our religious and
cultural heritage. There will be soon (lunch) for the Sanghas offered collectively by donors, to followed by a
dhamma talk.
