HVAC DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:

UNIVERSITY CONTACT:

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

Design system to maintain (+/-) 72 deg F inside space condition in both summer and
winter cycles. Equipment should be designed for an outside ambient temperature to
meet the following conditions:

Winter: 0 Deg F dry bulb

Summer: 92 Deg F dry bulb and 74 Deg F Wet bulb

All coils must have adequate clearance for removal and service. All multi-pass coils vents
and drains should be installed for easy access for service.

Design all new chilled water equipment for 14 degree delta temperature.

All based motors to be high efficiency.

All pumps must have vibration eliminators.

All completed jobs must include as-built mechanical prints and as-built ATC prints along
with the sequence of operation. Air balance and water balance reports must also be included
before job is turned over to University.

Use Butterfly valves (High performance only) for dual temperature change/over valves or
chill water mains. For all other applications, standard butterfly valves are acceptable.

One thermostat controlling multiple rooms or areas should be kept to a minimum.

For equipment using adjustable frequency drives, refer to VFD/Motor CSI Section 15170.

All mechanical rooms on the ground floor are to be flood proof.

NOTE See plumbing section for all piping insulation requirements.

down piped back to glycol feed tank.

DO'S AND DON'TS

DO'S:

DO K-Type Copper should be used in all HVAC applications.

DO All moving equipment must be supplied with Manufacturers Operating & Maintenance
Manual. Each manual should have the name-plate Model and Serial number of equipment,
plus equipment designation, i.e. P-3, AH-4, on top of page.
DO Use ball valves for all valves less than 3" to insure positive shutoff.
DO All pumps must be supplied with data information, including pump curves and
impeller size.

UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE-FACILITIES DESIGN STANDARDS
MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS CSI: SECTION 15001

DO All pumps must have pressure gages, mounted in the suction and discharge sides of the
pumps with ½" thread-o-lets that along with pump curves and impeller size, GPM readings
can be calculated.
DO Pressure gages to be SS bodies, glycerin filled, brass works with 4” face.
DO Separate air filter list should be supplied listing size, quantity, and type of filter for each
unit.

DON'TS:

DO NOT Use electric heat trace as primary freeze protection means.

DO NOT Use di-electric unions for dissimilar metal transitions. This does not alleviate
contractor of responsibility for providing proper transition fitting for dissimilar metals.
Recommend use of waterway nipples from Victaulic Corporation.
DO NOT use Vortex damper.
