Do you ever wonder which newspaper source is the best? Or even which one is more
detailed or credible? Now in decent times there are so many newspaper sources that it is easy
to believe everything is true. I will be comparing three different news sources Aljazeera,
AlterNet, New York Times and will recommend which one you should read.
To begin with, I recommend the traditional New York Times. You should consider reading the New York
Times because you will get informed on the latest news that is currently occurring in our world. When I
was on the homepage of the New York Times on February 3, 2011 and it was interesting because the
bold black headlines caught my attention. I clicked on the headline and started to read what was
happening. As I read the report on Egypt, I could see what was happening in the Tahrir Square. To even
make it better the Times has amazing pictures and live stream video to go with their stories. This is great
because when people read the news they understand what is being said but they need to visualize as
well. Sometimes words aren’t enough to grasp the readers’ attention. Keep in mind when reading news
sources the story could be worded differently. I was reading about the protest in Egypt. The New York
Times has pictures of the pro and anti democracy parties fighting each other. I could picture and
understand what was going on out there. The citizens of this country want democracy and are tired of
having a dictator. Not only does the New York Times have the latest worldwide news but it has

an
idea what is happening through the headline and also that you can click on to read more. The
purpose of newspapers is to inform the citizens of what is happening. News sources have
different headlines relating to the same topic. So it would mean that their focuses are not the
same.
The difference between Aljazeera and the New York Times is that the same article is worded
different by the news reporters. The Aljazeera news said that the two New York Times
reporters were arrested and taken into protective custody. The New York Times reported that
supporters of President Hosni Mubarak attacked foreign journalists, punching them and
smashing their equipment. Notice the different statement between the two new sources. Why
Aljazeera didn’t not mention what actually happened? Although they worded the statement
different they are very concerned with happens in the Middle East. Aljazeera does have news
about other countries but it seems that they more concerned what happens in the middle east.
I liked that they had artitechtal design as to where the protesters were in the Tahrir Square.
Thirdly, the difference between AlterNet and the New York Times is enormous. While I visited
AlterNet homepage they did not have Egypt as their headline instead it was FBI Violating Your
Liberties. I actually had to scroll down to see if I saw an article on Egypt. Right away I knew that
AlterNet focus was somewhere else rather than Egypt. As I read the article about Egypt I didn’t
find one thing about foreign journalists being attacked. What I did read is that people are
getting injured and taking hospital but it doesn’t specify who is getting attacked.
