SCOTTISH ARCHAEOLOGY MONTH CONTENTS

It’s that time of year again. As the summer draws to a close, and we prepare

ourselves for the dark nights ahead, at least we have Scottish Archaeology European Heritage Days 2
Month (SAM) to enjoy and the continuation into Highland Archaeology Contents / Symbols 3
Fortnight means that there are six weeks of free and exciting archaeological Archaeology Scotland Membership 25
events on offer. SAM makes me think about how fortunate we are to live in (or Schools Programme 45
visit) Scotland with its wealth of archaeological sites and the opportunity that Doors Open Days 48
European Heritage Days allows for us to explore our heritage through Scottish
Archaeology Month and Doors Open Days. Of course, this would not be EVENTS BY AREA
possible without the involvement of local volunteers who devise, lead and
promote local walks, talks and visits and the participation of public and private Aberdeen 4 Glasgow 33
sector as well in support of these events. Our thanks to all as ever. Aberdeenshire 6 Highland 35

Archaeology Scotland’s (note the new name!) involvement in the co-ordination Argyll & Bute 9 Midlothian 38
of SAM is made possible through a grant from Historic Scotland. As one of the
leading national archaeological charities in Scotland, what we lack in terms of

having our own historic sites to visit, we make up for by initiatives such as SAM, Dumfries & Galloway 11 Orkney 39
our annual Summer School, the Scottish Archaeology Fair, our conferences Dunbartonshire 17 Perth & Kinross 39
