• Project Owner : Shanghai Municipality Electric Power Co.

• Installation of a new 500 kV circuit in a tunnel

• Tender date : 2006, August 31st

• Contract coming into force: 2006, November 28th

• Contract period:
– Supply: 24 months

– Installation: 18 months

• 2500 mm² copper XLPE 500 kV cable

with smooth aluminium sheath and fire
retardant jacket.
• One circuit (17km long) in a tunnel
• Total cable length : 51 km (81 drums)
220 kV joints
• 78 joints
• 6 GIS terminations 220 kV circuits
• Cable system design, type test 3.5 m
• Supply of cable and accessories 138 inches
500 kV joints
• Design of cable clamp and cable
metallic support

 Type Tests Program

• Electrical type tests are based on IEC 62067

• Lightning impulse test: 1675 kV, Switching impulse: 1300 kV
• The Cable Jacket must comply with IEC 60332-3 category A.
• A special compound has been developed by Nexans to comply
with the fire requirements and the physic & chemical requirements.
