Course Description
WELCOME TO CHAMBER SINGERS! We will be working on music for several concerts this semester.
A Tribute to Frank Sinatra, March 24, 25 and 26, 8 pm, University Theatre, in conjunction with
Vocal Instruction II.
Annual Choral Concert, May 8, 8 pm, University Theatre, in conjunction with the UT Dallas
Community Chorale, with orchestra.
Additional rehearsals will be announced well in advance. There are a few evening rehearsals during the
weeks prior to performances. Please put these dates on your calendar now. We will discuss dress for
performances at a later date.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Rehearsals and performances: THIS IS A PERFORMANCE COURSE. Attendance at all performances
and rehearsals is mandatory. The concerts take the place of a final examination. All performances are on
weekends and do not conflict with other classes. Please arrange commitments (work, vacations, etc.)
around these concerts and rehearsals. Attendance is required and will affect the course grade. You are
allowed one unexcused absence. You may attend musical concerts here at UT Dallas or in the Dallas
metroplex and submit a TWO-page review of the concert to make up other absences (see below). This is
limited to four additional absences. Any unexcused absences beyond those four cannot be made up. Please
be on time for rehearsals; our time together is limited and must be used efficiently. Late arrival will not be
tolerated. If you are not present when I take attendance, you will be marked absent.
Concert attendance: You are also required to attend two concerts this semester and submit a TWO-page
review. All of these concerts will be free to UT Dallas students. Reviews are due no later than 2 weeks
after the date of the concert.
Other performances may be substituted only with prior approval of the instructor. UT Dallas students have
free admission to all UT Dallas concerts. If you chose to attend concerts off-campus, the admission cost is
your responsibility. We will also be making a trip to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra this semester.
IMPORTANT: I communicate with this class via your UT Dallas email address. You must read it
often.
