Ten years ago Siegwerk entered the
Brazilian market to replace toluene
based gravure inks with toluene free
countertypes. This was successfully
completed in a partnership with one of
the main market participants. Since then
our partnership has flourished including
the establishing of in-house ink
management and print optimization
programs. Our business with other
printers for tobacco packaging has also
developed in Brazil and further growth
in South America is anticipated.
The development of business in Russia
started in 2000 when an opportunity
arose at one of the well known tobacco
printers. Siegwerk through its local
distributor in St. Petersburg was selected
as the ink supplier. Over subsequent
years the business developed as more
tobacco packaging printing machines
were installed in the country. Later
other print companies also started
seeing the potential of the Russian
market. In 2004 Siegwerk purchased its
former distributor and in October 2006,
a new blending center in Volhonka
near St Petersburg, was opened to
service the continued growth of this
market and further strengthen our
position as market leader. The market
for tobacco inks has developed in other
former CIS countries and also Turkey.
Siegwerk is further investing in resources
in these markets with its wholly owned
subsidiary in Istanbul since the year 2006
and its partnerships with distributors
elsewhere.
