IN PORT MANAGEMENT (PGPPM)
ADMISSION NOTICE - 2008-09
Ports have always played a vital role in the trade and commerce of the country
from time immemorial. This is more so now in this era of economic liberalisation.
To meet the increasing demands for imports and exports, there is a need for
revitalising the administration of ports. Gujarat has about 41 ports along its 1600 km
long coastline. There are also other ports on India’s vast coastline requiring trained
manpower for their efficient administration. Gujarat University has taken the
initiative to start a programme specially tailored to suit the needs of the port sector.
The programme was started from the academic year 2006-07. The first two-year
batch is about to graduate and the placements have been very encouraging.

1. Candidates who have appeared for the final year/semester examination can also
apply. The applicants, whose result of final year/semester is declared after
submission of the application, are required to send the result as soon as the same are
announced.
3. All original documents and the fee should be brought at the time of
counselling/admission, without which admission will not be given. No extension of
time for the purpose will be given and those who fail to do so, their seats will be
allocated to the next eligible person in the merit list.
4. The admitted candidate will also have to make a course deposit of Rs.2,000/- over
and above the course semester fee at the time of admission.
5. The sponsored candidates will have to deposit the entire course fee at the time of
counselling/admission, along with the course deposit of Rs.2,000.
6. An applicant who withdraws from the programme within 15 days of the
commencement of the course will be refunded 50% of the fee paid. No refund
will be made to candidates withdrawing from the programme after the above
programme.
7. The decision of the University on above matters matter will be final and
binding on all concerned.

PROCEDURE FOR SPONSORING CANDIDATES
(i) Application: Each candidate desirous of admission to the programme through
sponsorship should preferably also take the GCET 2008 test and submit the
application form as stated earlier. Further, the applicant should also submit a letter of
sponsorship from the sponsoring institution at the time of application or latest by
August 25, 2008 along with the full course fees.
(ii) Eligibility: Any institution associated directly or indirectly with the business of Ports
and/or shipping which is likely to employ the candidate on successful completion of
the PGPPM course can sponsor the candidate for the course. The institution should
be approved by the Gujarat University by entering into a memorandum of
understanding (MoU).
(iii) Procedure: The institution should enter into an MOU in support of the candidate
with the Gujarat University on the lines of the draft attached with/without
modification.
(iv) The institution should also forward the sponsorship letter/s of each of its sponsored
candidate/s along with non-refundable full course fee for four semesters, by way of a
demand draft payable to Gujarat University at Ahmedabad along with course deposit.
(v) The institution may have its own agreement with the candidate/s sponsored by it with
respect to the project work and further employment.
(vi) Acceptance: The Gujarat University PGPPM Committee will confirm the admission of
the sponsored candidate/s subject to the following:
1. The minimum qualifications are met.
2. In case an institution sponsors more than one candidate, the second or subsequent
candidates will be admitted only after acceptance of the first named candidates of
other sponsoring institutions, and so on for the third named and other candidates.
4. In case the second or third named sponsored candidates of various bodies are more
than the available number of seats, the Admission Committee will decide the mode
of selection and its decision will be binding on all concerned.
5. In case an admitted sponsored candidate opts out of the program within the first 15
days of the commencement of the course, the sponsoring body will be permitted to
sponsor another candidate against that seat by paying only the Course Deposit
again. This will be permitted only once for each sponsored seat and the entire
process must be completed within 30 days of the commencement of the course.
6. The Fees of Sponsored Candidates not granted admission will be refunded. Where
a sponsored candidate withdraws and the sponsoring institution does not sponsor
another candidate against that seat, no refund of fees already paid will be made.
