The case and cap are machined from a titanium a l l o y . The case is
threaded a t one end t o permit attachment of t h e pyrogen head caps. It i s 1,4
i n c h e s i n diameter and has an over-all length of 1.6 inches and a throat dianeter
of 0.19 inches. An i n s u l a t i o n sleeve made from a s i l i c a f a b r i c , reinforced
with a phenolic material, p r o t e c t s t h e pyrogen assembly during motor operation.
It i s bonded i n place t o t h e e x t e r i o r of t h e case. 'The p r o p e l l a n t i s c a s t
i n t o a paper phenolic tube and, a f t e r i t i s cured, i s i n s e r t e d i n t o the i n t e r i o r
of t h e case.

f i t t e d . The i n j e c t o r u t i l i z e 8 precise j e t s which impinge t h e f u e l and oxidizer
on one another f o r c o n t r o l l e d mixing and good combustion e f f i c i e n c y . The c a l i -
b r a t i o n o r i f i c e s are trim devices used i n conjunction with t h e p r o p e l l a n t valves
and t h e i n j e c t o r s t o a d j u s t t h e flows t o t h e design flow l e v e l s . The trim
o r i f i c e s are adjusted and f i x e d during TCA acceptance t e s t i n g . The combustion
chamber i s the enclosed a r e a between t h e i n j e c t o r face and t h e t h r o a t of t h e
nozzle. The expansion nozzle i s bell-shaped and contoured t o terminate f l u s h
with t h e moldline of t h e spacecraft. The combustion chamber and the nozzle are
l i n e d with a b l a t i o n material and i n s u l a t i o n t o c o n t r o l e x t e r n a l w a l l temperature.
Seals are provided between t h e nozzle and t h e s p a c e c r a f t s k i n t o prevent t h e
backflow o f exhaust gas i n t o the spacecraft. A p r o t e c t i v e cover o r plug i s Fro-
vided t o p r o t e c t t h e t h r u s t chamber from e n t r y of f o r e i g n matter when t h e TO\ i s
not i n use. The cover o r plug i s manually removed p r i o r t o launch and/or
j e t t i s o n e d i n f l i g h t by t h e f i r s t start.
