Q1. A Binary source generates digits 1 and 0 randomly with probability 0.6 and 0.4 respectively.
(a)What is the probability that two 1’s and three 0’s will occur in a five bit sequence?
(b) What is the probability that at least three 1’s will occur in a five bit sequence?

Q5. (a) A noisy transmission channel has a per bit probability pe=0.01, then calculate
(i) The probability of more than one error in 10 received digits.
(ii) Calculate the above probability by using Poisson’s approximation.

(b) A fair coin is tossed 12 times , find the probability of 3 and 6 heads inclusive , by using
Normal or Gaussian approximation also draw the Gaussian curve.

Q6. Binary data are transmitted over a noisy communication channel in a block of 16 binary
digits. The probability that a received digit is in error due to channel noise is 0.01. Assume that the
errors occurring in various digits positions within a block are independent
(a) Find the mean errors per block.
(b) Find the variance of the number of errors per block.
(c) Find the probability that the numbers of errors per block is greater than or equal to 4.
