Installation
The previous release of firmware for the ExtendAir r5000 Series is identified as follows:

Firmware version: 1.1.3 November 18, 2009 08:46:14 (as seen from Radio Information GUI page)
File: exaltExAir5rv1_1_3.bin (as seen from Administration >File Management> File Activation GUI page)

This updated release of firmware for the ExtendAir r5000 Series is identified as follows:

Firmware version: 1.2.0 March 31, 2010 18:59:20

File: exaltExAir5rv1_2_0.bin

Install the firmware, as follows:

1. Connect PC to DATA port of power injector with Ethernet cable and login to browser-based GUI,
following instructions from the Quick Start Guide or Installation & Management manual.
Note: depending on IP configuration, connection can be made to both the near-end and far-end radio from
one side of the link, and also may not need to be direct to the power injector and instead to a connected
network device such as a switch or router. If upgrading a link from one side, upgrade the far-end radio first,
then near-end radio.
2. For this release, it is recommended to download or clear the Event Log prior to upgrade.
3. From the Administration>File Management>File Transfer page, select the Radio Firmware button in the
Upload section, browse for the file to upload (exaltExAir5rv1_2_0.bin) and press Upload.
4. Wait for upload to complete – a screen will appear saying ‘Uploaded file successfully saved to flash’.
5. From the Administration /File Management>File Activation page, verify the new file is in the Alternative
File column, and press Swap. Confirm installation by pressing OK twice, as prompted.
6. Wait for radio to reboot. GUI page will automatically refresh and stabilize when process is complete
(approximately 4 minutes).
7. Perform steps 1 through 5 on the opposite radio end.
8. Confirm the Current File, as listed on the File Transfer page, for both radios indicates the new firmware file
name. On the Radio Information page, Firmware Version should read: 1.2.0 March 31, 2010 18:59:20.

New Features and enhancements
The following features have been added in this release:

1. 160 Mbps throughput. The new software release automatically provides upgraded system capacity from
120 Mbps aggregate to 160 Mbps aggregate (163 Mbps actual) in 32 MHz channel and Mode 3 (64 QAM)
configuration. All paths engineered with this configuration will see an immediate increase in throughput
after the upgrade. Throughput can be asymmetrically adjusted up to 80% in a single direction.

2. VLAN. The VLAN configuration page provides additional VLAN configuration options for blocking
untagged traffic, passing untagged traffic, tagging untagged traffic, or configuring for management VLAN
only. In the latter configuration, all non-management traffic will pass transparently through the radio.
Only packets tagged with the correct management ID will be able to manage the radio.

3. DHCP. DHCP is now selectable per Ethernet port, assigns an IP of radio IP Address + 2, and restarts
whenever a new Ethernet connection is detected on a DHCP-enabled Ethernet port, providing enhanced
flexibility and control for on-site management access and system recovery.

Issues Fixed
The following issue have been addressed in this release:

1. The Default VLAN ID for MAIN must match the Management VLAN ID for Management VLAN to
operate properly.
Fix: The Management VLAN ID can now be a different value from the Default VLAN ID.
2. Changing the Ethernet utilization watermark did not reset the daily counter, so changes did not take effect
until the following day.
Fix: A change in the Ethernet utilization watermark now resets the daily counter so changes take effect
immediately.

Issues Known
The following issues are known to exist in this release:

1. FCC U-NII bands cannot be configured for FCC regulatory domain. The FCC has suspended certification
of new equipment for operation in the U-NII bands of 5.25-5.35 GHz and 5.47-5.725 GHz until further
notice and thus ExtendAir U-NII band operation is not legal under FCC rules. ExtendAir is in line for U-
NII band DFS certification. All existing ExtendAir radios will be able to support the U-NII bands if and
when the FCC lab reopens and certification is completed.
2. The Sync Out port cannot be configured. Internal ExaltSync will be available in an upcoming feature
release to support internal sync collocation configurations. In the meantime, ExaltSync GPS is available to
provide this functionality using the external GPS accessory available from Exalt.
3. The T1/E1 port 4 LED and PoE LEDs are not matching documented functionality.

Documentation
• The Installation & Management (I&M) manual is embedded in the firmware and may be downloaded from the
radio. Alternatively, the I&M manual can be obtained from the website mentioned above. The current version
of the I&M manual is 20091218 (December 18, 2009).
• The Quick Start Guide (QSG) covers all ExtendAir models and may be obtained from the website mentioned
above. The current version is 20100113 (January 13, 2010).
