Although the word ³finger prints´ are more familiar with the synonyms like uniqueness and
individuality which is not an established fact but an empirical observation. In this report it
mainly discusses about the feasibility of using fingerprint recognition system in a classroom as a
means of establishing a unique identity, to support the proposed system. The fingerprint
recognition system measures physiological characteristics of the person by his/her finger prints
which are the unique part in the human beings and no two individuals have the same fingerprint
recognitions. And hence in the proposed fingerprint recognition system whenever the person
enters into the class room after scanning his/her finger at the system and if it validates or
identifies the person and then the person enters into the class room.





Finger print systems are still key for solving criminal cases and other mysteries and they are
easily solved on the basis of fingerprint recognitions and they are identified with the marks of the
fingers and the respective clue teams works on that and get to know who were the real criminals
which were obtained from any substance or material or else the human body. Early days the
fingerprint recognition were mainly used for the criminal cases but later on the fingerprint
recognition came into existence with many applications and functionalities. In the united states,
Gilbert Thompson a geologist used fingerprint recognitions on documents in 1882 to prevent
forgery and thus he became the first person to use fingerprint recognitions in the united states
and later Edward Henry finished his system of identification and retrieval of fingerprint
recognitions in 1896 and the following year Indian government made fingerprint system, the
official means of keep tracking criminals. After eight years of testing, FBI created a
computerized criminal fingerprint recognition file in 1980 and after three years in 1983 the FBI
created the National crime information center, to allow the dissemination of information between
the federal and local governments. By 1989, all the fingerprint recognition match requests were
done on the computer, and response time cut from the 14 to 1 day.

Hence the fingerprint recognition system is mainly used till

now for the identification of the person whether it is in the criminal case or any other security
purposes, by eliminating forgery and keeping the system secure and confidential.

In every organization security plays an important role when the employees working in the
organization need to enter with a valid id which satisfies the security requirement s and
enters his id information and enters into the organization. In the same way the students
who attend the class for lecture were may be or not present in the class everyday and
hence the professor takes the attendance manually everyday by calling upon their names
which is a time consuming process and more records should maintain the student
attendance every day. Hence in this system the automated fingerprint recognition system
is enabled at the entrance of the class hence each and every student can access the class
and valid their information which is also acts as an attendance for the students instead of
maintaining the manual student attendance. For validating the information the student
data is primarily collected into a database and whenever the student provided information
with their fingerprint recognitions, the matching information in the database is collected
through a system by comparing all of other data and hence the appropriate person will be
identified and marks his attendance for that particular class.

In this system the main advantage is time saving of the professor by not taking the
manual attendance which would be a time consuming process and may have the chance
of data manipulation or any lost of the records such as student attendance records. And
also another advantage is that using fingerprint recognition system in a class will
definitely have the major impact on the student records maintenance and how accurate
the attendance system works. Fingerprint recognition system also has many advantages
than other type of recent systems for example like Face recognition system in which the
face recognition also not accurate than the single fingerprint recognition system because
of its identification performance and its uniqueness. Besides having advantages the
fingerprint recognition system has some disadvantages like it does not offer 100%
certainty of authentication of individuals. And the success of any system using fingerprint
recognition system depends upon many factors such as uniqueness of the biometric
measure, technical and social factors, user interfaces and provision of the secure backup
systems for those situation and individuals where the biometric will not work effectively.

In this proposed fingerprint recognition system the staff will not be required all the time.
After installing the fingerprint recognition system with the information loaded with the
student database connected virtually with the system and all the setup is installed with the
equipment and there is no need to validate the student info for every student with a staff
member. Hence the fingerprint recognition system is an automated system and it
recognizes the individuals and marks the attendances that were present in the class.

There is no need of huge place for this proposed fingerprint recognition system because it
is very simple and takes very less space compared to other systems. The proposed system
is simple and easily transferrable from one place to another place and also it¶s a portable
verification device and has a simple gathering of data also the reporting.

For the Proposed Fingerprint recognition system the basic components needed are
Hardware, Registration Hardware, Verification Hardware, Registration Software,
Verification Software and Time attendance Reporting software and also the hardware like
webcam which is used to take photo of the student at the time of student registration. The
cost of the proposed system is much reliable and affordable than the present systems like
Face recognition system and other type of advanced systems which costs normally higher
than the fingerprint recognition system.

The important requirements of the software in this proposed fingerprint recognition
system is that fingerprint recognition registration module, and a feature rich software
allow easy registration and verification.

rV Hence in the proposed fingerprint recognition system, for the identification application it
is necessary to adopt the minutiae based system which means that ends of the ridges.
rV For the fingerprint recognition system to uniquely identify one student in a class at least
four fingers per person are needed. Collecting prints from all fingers is recommended.
rV And it is recommended to collect the flat prints rather than rolled prints
rV The security of the identity database is very important which should be secure against
fraud; hence security evaluation of the system should be done regularly.
rV And finally a secure and user-friendly process, and backup system, is required for non-
fraudulent database matches.
