CONCLUSION 44
INTRODUCTION

I was a senior in high school when I stumbled onto this gold mine. Passive income, a lot of free time—
everything you could imagine in a career. I ran a newsletter that delivered three to four e-mails per week. The
goal of the newsletter was to inform people why all money-making programs on the Internet were scams. I also
explained the basics of Internet marketing and showed people a simpler way to conquer the Internet.
When I originally started the newsletter, I was not trying to make a profit. I enjoyed writing; I always
have, and I always will. In the process of writing the newsletter, I started to make recommendations on
marketing programs I liked through an affiliate link. If I found a marketing company with a successful
marketing tactic, I would recommend them to my subscribers. In turn the company would pay me a
commission of all the sales I made.
During my senior year of high school, I made about one thousand dollars a month. That’s not bad for a
senior in high school. Running the newsletter took up about ten hours of my time. Unfortunately, in my
youthful ignorance I started sampling work-at-home businesses (online scams). This is a mistake I still
regret to this day. For the most part all of the home-based businesses were scams, or they simply lacked
the detail to be considered an actual home-based business plan. Unknowingly, one day I tried an
Internet investing system that seemed to work. In my excitement at finally finding an Internet program
that worked, I hastily recommended it to the readers of my newsletter.
Months went by, the Internet business seemed great, and my readers were as happy as they had ever
been. Not only had I found a way to make money from home, but I was also feeding my subscribers the
marketing methods to turn huge profits. Everybody was happy; subscribers were actually telling their
friends and family about my newsletter.
Until the dreadful day when I discovered the business I was recommending was a scam. I quickly told
my subscribers to get their money out. Many of my readers listened and recovered some of their
money. Others were unable to get money out of the business, and lost the sum they invested. The worst
part was that besides losing money on the business itself, my subscribers lost large amounts in the
marketing tactics used to promote the scam artist.
I finally shut down the newsletter, telling my readers that I was sorry for the information I had
provided. Most of my loyal readers told me that it was OK and that the marketing tactics were worth
the price they ended up paying. Other readers were not so forgiving and cursed my name for
recommending them to such a business. Some readers assumed I was part of the scam. I lost my
money, my newsletter, and my income. When I went off to college, I tried starting my own Internet
businesses, most of which failed to turn any kind of real profit. I found myself lost with no direction. I
went through college struggling to get a business off the ground until the end of my senior year, when I
called it quits.
I joined the working world with everybody else, and like everybody else, I was miserable. I was no
longer writing and was living paycheck to paycheck. One day at work it finally hit me. I knew a way to
make money while teaching other people to make legitimate money: become an author and write a
book to teach other people why being an author is profitable. The idea was always there, but I just
recently got around to it. My youthful passion may have ended in disaster, but I learned how to turn my
passion into profits.
This book is dedicated to showing you how to make money as an author. If you are reading this book
and are thinking it will teach you a “get rich quick” method, let me put your mind at ease. I have still to
this day never found an online business that has delivered anything close to what they promise on its
sales page. These Web businesses are simply taking your money and living the life you always dreamed
of.
