Denmark: Muhammad Cartoon Controversy

It is religious hatred

This article is about a Danish artist that drew racial cartoons that were
insulting towards the religious views of Muslims. The artist found it comical and
did not think twice as to how it would offend others. The Danish artist found it
funny how President Bush invaded Iraq 6 weeks after the summit where Bush
said that he would put his full efforts to stop any possible attacks, and just a few
weeks after, Iraq was invaded. Something as small as these little cartoon
drawings quickly became a big issue. Muslim believers were offended and took
action. They found it much more serious than funny. Many European
newspapers released the cartoons, and this invoked Muslim believers to kill 10
Christian citizens.

Drug Trafficking
Food Prices Alone Won't stop Afghan Opium
Growers

This article is about the debate on food prices and its impact on Afghan
opium growers. Afghanistan produces 90% of opium worldwide, they roughly
plant the same amount of opium compared to wheat. Hopes are that the
recently doubled food prices will cause Afghan farmers to plant more wheat
instead of opium. The government will improve the irrigation system as long as
they start seeing change of farmers switching back to wheat. The government
also plans on giving more financial support to wheat farmers since a hectare of
wheat brings around $1.500 dollars while a hectare of opium brings around
$5000. The government is trying to become more lenient and give farmers the
option to request a loan to support their farm.

Family Planning
Ambitious Family Planning Goals
This article is about how the family sizes in Andavadoaka Madagascar is
unhealthy what we are doing to help. It is very common to find an exhausted
mother of 10 children in her thirties especially in the rural side. In the past 25
years Madagascar's population has doubled into 19.6 million and its estimated
to reach 43.5 million by 2050. Family Planning initiatives in the cities have had
some success in helping families, but there is still need for more assistance in
the rural areas. Government statistics show that 70% of women at the age of
16 give birth to their first child. This is a big issue. By the age of 16 a teenager
will become a mother and will have to carry an enormous amount of
responsibility. In order to “improve the well being of each family member”, The
Madagascar Action Plan is to reduces the average size of a Malagasy family.
This plan also wants to empower women in making the right choices, as most of
the women don't use protection during sex with their partner. The national
statistics show the average fertility rate per family is 4.94 (5 children). MAP's
goals can be achieved but it will take quite a bit of time.
