Film that Funky Music

Task Description
Students will create a music video to either an original or pre-existing piece of music. This task requires you to
prepare and present, in groups, a music video filmed on location. The music video must be based on ONE of the
themes studied as part of this unit’s AOI. You must also address the key concepts previously addressed in class, in
particular the use of film language. Students will be marked individually based on their contribution to the task.
The grade is a culmination of their involvement throughout the entire production process from planning to
shooting, editing and reflecting.

Criterion B : Application (Maximum 10)


Students are expected to demonstrate the ability to show knowledge and understanding of the concepts previously studied in class. Assessment
will be based on how well their film applies :

- Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of the music video;


- Knowledge and understanding of how film language is used to express ideas;
- Knowledge and understanding of the chosen theme and creativity in its application;
- Thorough and effective planning and time management;
- Creativity and resourcefulness in filming on location;
An ability to work well alone and as part of a team

- The student plays a superficial role in the task.
- The student shows a basic understanding of music videos but has difficulty applying this knowledge to their film;
3-4 - The student understands how film language can be used in storytelling but has difficulty understanding which
technique to use, even with support;
- The student shows a basic understanding of the chosen theme but has difficulty translating this to screen.
- The student shows an ineffective understanding of planning and time management;
- The student plays a minor role in the task.
- The student shows a good general understanding of music videos but has difficulty applying them effectively;
5-6 - The student understands how film language can be used in storytelling and can apply the various techniques effectively
in obvious situations;
- The student shows a good understanding of the chosen theme but has difficulty translating this creatively to screen.
- The student shows a moderate understanding of planning and time management;
The student plays an active role in the task.
- The student shows a thorough understanding of music video characteristics and can apply them effectively;
7-8 - The student shows a thorough understanding of how film language can be used in storytelling and can apply the
various techniques effectively in a variety of situations;
