Molinete (Western Visayas region VI)

“Molinete” is an early ballroom dance from Negros Occidental. The


waltz pattern is used throughout the dance.

SOURCE: Petra Yanson of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, who well


remembered the dance as performed in her youth.

COSTUME: Any Visayan costume or the Girl wears a Maria Clara style
skirt and camisa. The Boy wears barong tagalong and trouser of any color.

EQUIPMENT: Eight chairs

MUSIC: ¾ divided into two parts: A and B.

COUNT: 1, 2, 3 to a measure.

FORMATION: Maybe danced by one couple or more couples coming out


successively one at a time.

I. Music A.

Starting Position

Girl starts from one end while Boy starts from another end of thr
chairs.

a. Starting with R foot take two waltz steps forward (2M), and a
waltz-turn right (2M). Girl’s hands holding skirt, Boy’s hands on
waist.
b. Repeat (a) as many times as needed until partners meet at
center between chairs.

II. Music B.

a. Hold in closed-ballroom dance position. Starting with Boy’s L and


Girl’s R foot execute waltz steps and waltz turn around each
chair in and out in a continuous figure 8, trying their best not to
touch the chairs

b. Repeat (a) until all chairs are circled. Partners finish at the
center.

c. Release hands, and bow to audience, or partner. Girl’s hands


holding skirt, Boy opens arm to second position palms up.

Note: Repeat the music as many times as necessary.


Pahid (Western Visayas Region VI)
“Pahid”, a lively ballroom dance, originated in Madalag and Libacao. It
is veryu popular among the seventeen towns of Aklan. This Visayan dance is
accompanied by a song.

SOURCE: The dance was learned from Esperanza Carpio of Kalibo. The
song was contributed by Rufino Ureta of Bañga, also from Aklan.

COSTUME: Any Visayan costume.

MUSIC: 2/4 divided into two parts: A and B.

COUNT: 1, 2 to a measure.

FORMATION: Couples in closed-dance position.

NOTE: Directions are written for Boy; Girl does the same on opposite
foot.

“Pahid” Step:

Step L (R) in place (et. 1), step R (L) toe close to L (R) (et. 2), step L
(R) foot in place (et. 1), step R (L) sideward in sideward in second position
