Improve sports standard
for national pride
The youth of today are the future of the
nation. To make sure that the nation has a
promising future, younger generations are to
be in great shape. So, we must improve the
national sports standard to bring about healthy
and fit generations.
Improvement of the national sports will
gather momentum if youngsters with high
intellectual power are largely attracted to sport.
If so, the national health standard will improve
and the youth will be able to serve the national
interests greater than ever.
The Myanmar archery contingent could
bring tremendous dignity to the motherland
after being crowned at the First Asian Archery
Grand Prix 2011 for world ranking held in
Bangkok, Thailand, from 18 to 21 February.
The team pocketed five gold, one silver and
four bronze.
Myanmar archers managed to leave
behind their arch rivals from world archery
powers to stand first with 10 medals. The
Asian level contest could draw attention from
world archery giants such as France, Russia
and the US, so it could be designated as a
global level contest.
The government is nurturing and
training systematically the youth since success
in sport is a source of national pride. The
youth on their part have to try their best with
sporting spirit to be able to put the nation on
the world map with greater success in sport.

NAY PYI TAW, 27 Feb—U Po Shwe of Chaung-
inn Village, Pyundaza, Bago Region, lost his left
foot when he stepped on a mine planted by KNU
insurgents at the farm, about five miles south-east
of Shwegyin, at about 6 pm on 25 February.
In another case, Maung Ne Lin Aung of
Hlinethaya, Yangon Region, on his way to the
lemon farm in Shwegyin, Bago Region, stepped on
a KNU mine at about seven miles south-east of the
township around 9 am the same day, and lost his
left foot.

foot when he stepped on a KNU mine at a place
about 10 miles north-east of the town at about 8 am

birds from mutation, scientists find.
These findings could explain why such inky
testicles are mysteriously found throughout the
animal kingdom.
Scientists focused on the pigment melanin,
which gives human skin its colour. Curiously,
researchers have also seen melanin in the testes of
a variety of species in all vertebrate groups.
However, why this pigment is there and what it
might do was unknown.
Melanin is also an antioxidant that can protect
the body against reactive oxygen species, harmful
compounds that can damage DNA. As such,
scientists reasoned that melanin in testicles might
guard against genetic mutations in sperm.
Evolutionary biologist Ismael Galván at the
University of Paris-Sud in France and his colleagues
studied 134 species of birds, concentrating on
mutation rates in their mitochondria, which help
cells respire oxygen and which possess their own
DNA. Sperm need a lot of oxygen, and any
mutations in mitochondria could hamper sperm
and thus hobble a bird’s chances at reproduction.
The researchers found the 42 species of birds
with testicles darkened by melanin, such as owls
and thrushes, had relatively higher mutation rates
in their mitochondria than the 92 other birds without
inky testes. They also discovered that melanin was
most often seen in testicles during the breeding
seasons of birds, when sperm was likely generated.

NEW YORK, 27 Feb—In a sign that hackers, like
everyone else, are taking an interest in everything
Apple, researchers at Sophos say they’ve spotted a
new Trojan horse programme written for the Mac.
It’s called the BlackHole RAT (the RAT part is
for “remote access Trojan”) and it’s pretty easy to
find online in hacking forums, according to Chet
Wisniewski a researcher with antivirus vendor
Sophos. There’s even a YouTube video
demonstration of the programme that shows you
what it can do.
Sophos hasn’t seen the Trojan used in any online
attacks — it’s more a bare-bones, proof-of-concept
beta programme right now — but the software is
pretty easy to use, and if a criminal could find a way
to get a Mac user to install it, or write attack code that
would silently install it on the Mac, it would give him

Dan Loewenherz has released a new one for you: Crush Notifier.
“In short, it’s anonymous crushing,” Loewenherz, a 24-year-
old programmer, explained in a blog post on Saturday. “Crush
your friends without them knowing. If they crush you back, you
both get an email. Simple as that!”
To start, log onto your Facebook account and accept the
terms and conditions of the app. Then choose people on your
Friends list on whom you have a crush. He or she won’t know, but
if the person happens to choose you too, both of you will be
notified.
While the simplicity and aesthetics of Crush Notifier mimic its
predecessor, the mechanics show a bit more sophistication.
Loewenherz has implemented Facebook Credits to monetize the
new app, which he hinted during an interview with PCMag on
Thursday. Every user can anonymously choose two crushes for
free, but to follow more, you’ll have to either enter your friend’s

throat to the stomach. A valve at the
end of the esophagus is supposed to
function as a one-way release, relaxing
to allow food into the stomach and
closing back up so food and acid in
the stomach stay there, but a leaky
valve will result in heartburn, Spechler
says.
“Anything that tastes really good
is likely to give you heartburn and the
reason is the fat content,” Spechler

and weather has been partly cloudly in Bago and Yangon Regions,
Rakhine and Mon States and generally fair in the remaining Regions
and States. Night temperature were (5°C) to (6°C) below February
