OBRAS, PROYECTOS Y VISIÓN EN EL MUNDO ACTUAL

El evento de arquitectura se encuentra estructurado y diseñado de la siguiente manera:

OBJETIVO PRINCIPAL:
Introducir a los estudiantes y profesionales del ámbito de la arquitectura dentro de los nuevos conceptos
arquitectónicos que se desarrollan en el extranjero.

OBJETIVOS SECUNDARIOS:

• Demostrar la importancia que involucra el conocimiento globalizado para el desarrollo de la arquitectura.

• Generar una continua conciencia de investigación y profundización en el ámbito de la arquitectura.

• Generar una posición técnica que permita un manejo continuo de la información, el cual será optimizado
para un su uso efectivo.

CONFERENCISTA:

• KEN YEANG

Ken Yeang, inquieto arquitecto y teórico reconocido a nivel mundial por el desarrollo de soluciones
ambientales para rascacielos. Nació en Malasia, Yeang estudió en el Cheltenham College en
Gloucertershire, Inglaterra, y obtuvo el doctorado en diseño ecológico por la Universidad de Cambridge. Al
darse cuenta de que los rascacielos son una inevitable respuesta a la presión de una creciente población y la
carencia de tierra donde desplantar nuevas construcciones, Yeang ha dedicado su carrera a refutar la idea
que priva de que los edificios altos contribuyen a la destrucción del medio ambiente.

Como director de TR Hamzah & Yeang, en Kuala Lumpur, Malasia, Ken Yeang es pionero en el diseño de
elementos pasivos para el ahorro de energía en rascacielos, que él ha denominado como diseño
bioclimático. En 2005 se convirtió en director de Llewelyn Davies Yeang, una firma multidisciplinaria de
diseño urbano, arquitectura y paisaje. Desde esta nueva base en Londres, el doctor Yeang es ahora capaz de
ofrecer su experiencia académica y profesional a una mayor audiencia.

“Green Design”, un estilo de vida

Diseño sustentable, diseño bioclimático, edificios verdes, edificios low energy, etcétera, son tan sólo algunos
de los términos que se utilizan para definir un mismo concepto, y que en ocasiones sólo se convierten en
eslóganes publicitarios, como el tan desgastado término “edificio inteligente”.

Para Ken Yeang, esto es lo de menos, “no debemos inquietarnos con la terminología. Lo que es importante
es entender los principios y ser capaces de comunicarlos. El diseño bioclimático y los edificios low energy
son subconjuntos del diseño sustentable, el cual es sinónimo del diseño verde”.

El diseño verde trata más acerca de imitar los ecosistemas y menos de colocar eco-gadgets en los edificios.
Así lo define él mismo: “El diseño verde está elaborado para integrar nuestro medio ambiente construido
(que es todo lo que hacemos como humanos, tal como edificios, ferrocarriles, coches, refrigeradores,
juguetes, comida, etc.) de manera perfecta y benigna con el medio ambiente natural en tres niveles:
sistemático, físico y temporal. El ecodesign tiene que ver con la ecomimesis; los ecosistemas se mantienen
estables sin la intervención humana, necesitamos imitar sus características, estructura, funciones y procesos
sistémicos en nuestro medio ambiente construido. El low-energy design (diseño con bajo consumo
energético) no es un tema tecnológico, es un estilo de vida”.

Yeang habla sobre una sociedad verde, “no sólo es necesario un modelo ecológico físico para nuestro medio
ambiente construido, sino también un nuevo modelo social, económico, físico y político para la vida
contemporánea. Los obstáculos son múltiples: niveles de vida inequitativos, la gente, los gobiernos, la
economía, etcétera”.

Los recursos energéticos no renovables se desperdician en infinidad de usos en nuestro medio ambiente
construido, y “se utilizan para la creación de condiciones de confort en el interior de nuestros edificios.

Si podemos aceptar condiciones más bajas de confort (incluso 1 o 2 grados de temperatura) o extender las
condiciones agradables en zonas de clima templado o frío empleando la ventilación natural, reducir al
mínimo o evitar el uso de aire acondicionado en el verano o la calefacción en el invierno, podemos reducir el
uso de la energía. Éstas son características esenciales de vida de una sociedad verde”.
