Using OCS Inventory NG Agent Deploy Tool


Since OCS Inventory NG 1.02, there is a new tool named OCS Inventory NG deployment tool which help you
to deploy OCS Windows Agent without using LoginScript or GPO. This is very useful to install agent on
computers that failed to install OCS Inventory agent using GPO or for computers that are not members of a
Windows domain. OCS Deployment Tool can be use to deploy OCS Unix Unified too.

Installation
To install OCS Inventory NG Deployment Tool, download archive here :
http://www.ocsinventory-ng.org/index.php?page=downloads

Uncompress the OCSNG_AGENT_DEPLOYMENT_TOOL_1.02.zip file and run


OCSNG_Agent_Deployment_Tool_Setup.exe.

Click on Next.

Click on I agree to accept license.

Modify the install directory if needed and click on Next.

Choose the Start Menu directory if needed and click on Install to install OCS deployment tool.

Click on Finish to close the setup and run OCS Inventory NG Deploy Tool.

Deploying OCS Inventory Agent on Windows computers


Once OCS Inventory NG Deploy Tool running, click on Windows Agent to install OCS Inventory agent on
Windows computers.

Selecting computers

First, select computers you want to deploy OCS agent. You can select computers with an IP range or with
their machines names using the Selected host box. You can import computers list too using a .csv by clicking
on the Import button.

WARNING !! : To deploy OCS Inventory agent on Windows computers using OCS Inventory NG
Deployment Tool, you must activate C$ administrative share. Moreover, on computers which are not
members of a Windows domain, you have to disable "Using simple share (recommended)" using "Folders
options".

Click on Next to continue.

Here, you create the package which will be install on computers. The settings are similar to
"OCSPackager.exe" ones.

• Enter the OcsAgentSetup.exe path to include using 'Agent's service setup file
• Enter cacert.pem certificate path (needed for teledeploy) using Other file(s) to copy
• Enter OCS Inventory NG server address using OCS Inventory NG Server address
• Modify OCS Inventory NG Server Port if you use another port than 80 for communication between
agents and OCS Inventory server.
• Check Enable debugging log files to activate OCS Inventory agents logs (same as /DEBUG
parameter)
• Check Disable use of IE proxy settings to disable IE proxy settings use (same as /NP parameter)
• Enter additional parameters in Other options for Agent (/HKCU for example)
• Check Force inventory just after setup to force inventory launch after OCS agent installation (beware
to OCS server load if you install a lot of computers at the same time !)
• Check Change Agent setup directory to modify OCS Inventory agent installation directory

Click on Next to continue.

Here, you specify the account which will be use to install OCS agent. This account must have administrator's
rights on computers.

For computers that are Windows domain members, you have to specify the account name like this :
WINDOWSDOMAIN\accountname (or accountname@windowsdomain)

For computers that are not members of a Windows domain, only the account name is enough.

Click on Next to continue.

To launch deployment and agents installation, click on Start.

You can control bandwidth by setting simultaneous connections number. Every increase of this setting
increase the numbers of simultaneous installations.For example, choosing "3" will launch OCS Inventory
agent NG setup on 3 computers simultaneously.

WARNING !!!: increasing the simultaneous connections will increase the memory use on the computer
which is running OCS Inventory NG deploy tool.

Once computers deployment ended, you can save computers installation logs and the list of computers which
failed to install OCS agent in a .csv file.

Click on Close to close OCS Inventory NG Deploy Tool.

Deploying OCS Unix Unified Agent on Unix computers


Once OCS Inventory NG Deploy Tool running, click on Unix Agent to install OCS Inventory agent on Unix
computers.

WARNING !!!: to deploy Unix Unified Agent, you must have a root acces using SSH on computers.

First, select computers you want to deploy OCS agent. You can select computers with an IP range or with

on Import button.

Here, you create the package which will be installed on computers.

• Enter the OCSNG_UNIX_AGENT-1.02.tar.gz path to include using 'Agent's service setup file
• Enter cacert.pem certificate path (needed for teledeploy) using Other file(s) to copy
• Enter OCS Inventory NG address using OCS Inventory NG Server address (example:
http://ocsinventory-ng/ocsinventory)
• Enter the TAG value you want to affect to computers if needed
• Check Force inventory just after setup to force inventory launch after OCS agent installation (beware
to OCS server load if you install a lot of computers at the same time !)
• Check Change agent <var> directory to modify Unix Unified agent files path if needed
• Check Change agent <etc> directory to modify Unix Unified agent configuration files if needed

Click on Next to continue.

Here, you specify the account which will be use to install OCS agent. This account must have root's rights on
computers.

You can use SSH Putty private key for SSH connection if needed.
