Precise count determination in staple fiber, rovings and yarns is at the

determines both average yarn count and count variation of preparatory

THE BASIS FOR ALL SPINNING PARAMETERS
Accurate count measurement is the essential first step in producing
consistent yarn quality. USTER® is now in the unique position of pro-
viding a complete laboratory solution, from fiber through the entire
spinning process. That includes precise count measurement, provided
by the classic USTER® AUTOSORTER 5, which combine with the USTER®
ZWEIGLE YARN and ROVING REEL to form the indispensable standard
set for every spinning mill.
These systems cover all materials and yarn production stages. Roving
count and machine settings can be monitored, avoiding costly claims at
later stages of the process.

The USTER® ZWEIGLE SPLICE TESTER 4 measures splice strength and
elongation, making it the ideal complement to the USTER® QUANTUM
CLEARER for the optimization of the winding process – as well as re-
ducing claims in downstream production processes. The mobile USTER®
ZWEIGLE SPLICE TESTER 4 is user-friendly: it gives the operator the
flexibility to gather information in the laboratory or directly at the wind-
ing machine, and allows immediate modification of machine settings, if
needed.
A high-quality splice can be defined as one that achieves at least 80%
of the required yarn strength. The USTER® ZWEIGLE SPLICE TESTER 4
analyzes and classifies splices simply and quickly, so that the overall
performance of the winding machine is guaranteed.
Many people do not realize that a ‘sales-ready’ Ne 30 combed cotton
yarn will typically contain a minimum of 60 splices, half of which are
due to bobbin changes in winding the package, rather than actual yarn
faults. Therefore, continuous monitoring of splice strength is essential in
guaranteeing the overall quality and performance of a yarn.

As an extra check, standard values from traditional testing instruments can
be augmented by human assessment of yarn quality, using the USTER®

quality data, showing parameters such as thick and thin places, neps,
