6-8 October 2011

ASYRAS (Association of Young Researchers on Anglophone Studies),

together with the English Department of the University of Salamanca, is
pleased to announce the 2nd Conference of Young Researchers on
Anglophone Studies that will be held in Salamanca in October 2011. This
follows on from the first successful ASYRAS conference which was organised
at the University of Salamanca in 2009. Again, it is our aim to promote, give
diffusion and favour the exchange of research done by young scholars on
the different fields of Anglophone Studies (literature, culture, linguistics,
translation studies, etc).

Call for papers

The conference will welcome contributions (papers, posters and round

tables) on any field related to English, American and Postcolonial Studies,
including literary, cultural and linguistic approaches. The theme of the
conference will be “Research Challenges for Anglophone Studies in the 21st
Century”. We are therefore particularly interested in contributions that offer
the latest perspectives and methodologies on the topics to be discussed.

The attendance of reputed and well-known scholars as keynote

speakers has already been confirmed:

- Prof. Dr. Juan Camilo Conde Silvestre (University of

Murcia): “The diffusion of linguistic innovations in time and across
generations: A historical sociolinguistic approach.”
- Prof. Dr. Keith Gregor (University of Murcia): “’When the
damned Moor cometh...’: On the reception of Othello in Europe.”
- Prof. Dr. Mª Rosario Martín Ruano (University of
Salamanca): “Teorizar desde la traducción: El giro traductológico
de la investigación actual.”
- Prof. Dr. Geoff Thompson (University of Liverpool): “From
one text to many: Functional grammar and corpus linguistics.”

Authors, who should be postgraduate students in the initial

stages of their research careers, are invited to submit their proposals in
the attached form to asyras@usal.es. Oral presentations, in English, will be
20-min. long plus a 10-min. discussion. Round tables should include three or
four brief presentations (approx. 10 min. each) followed by an open
discussion (approx. 20-30 min.). Posters (A1) will also be accepted for
presentation during one of the conference sessions.

Deadline for receipt of proposals: 15th March 2011

Acceptance of proposals will be confirmed by 15th May 2011.

A selection of papers will be published.
