The 14th European Microwave Week

The 14th European Microwave Week 2011, being held this year in Manchester, builds on the success of the previous microwave weeks
held in Amsterdam (1998, 2004, 2008), London (2001), Manchester (2006), Milan (2002), Munich (1999, 2003, 2007), Paris (2000, 2005,
2010) and Rome (2009).

This conference has grown over the years and is now the premier event in this field in Europe. The European Microwave Week consists of
three conferences:

• The European Microwave Conference (EuMC)

• The European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC)

• The European Radar Conference (EuRAD)

The week provides the opportunity to attend the three conferences, various workshops and short courses given by experts in their Field.
Additionally the European Microwave Exhibition constitutes the largest trade show on microwaves and RF in Europe.

The event focuses on the needs of engineers and researchers, both academic and industry-based and provides a forum for discussion and
dissemination of knowledge surrounding the latest trends and developments within the ever-widening field of microwaves. Microwave
devices, systems for telecommunications, transportation, medical, radar and new fields of application will be included in the programme.

EuMW2011 will take place at the brand new conference centre - Manchester Central, Manchester, England. Located in the heart of the
city the venue is easy to access with good transportation links from around the UK and a direct train service from Manchester airport.

Submission of Preliminary Papers

and General Instructions for Authors
In 2011 the submission of summaries is replaced by submission of preliminary papers. Authors should submit a 4 page preliminary
paper in the standard conference proceedings layout. A template can be downloaded from the EuMW2011 website:
www.eumweek.com. The paper must be uploaded in pdf format. The maximum file size is 1 MB. It is essential to emphasise the novel
aspects of your paper. One author information form per paper must be completed at the EuMW2011 website when uploading the paper.

The week comprises three conferences. A paper can only be submitted to a single conference. Do not upload the same paper to more
than one conference. The deadline for submission of preliminary papers is February 12th 2011, 12:00pm CET. This is a firm deadline.
Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Each paper will be reviewed by the Technical Programme Committee of the conference for which the paper has been proposed by the
author(s). Exceptionally the EuMW General Chairman reserves the right to redirect a paper which does not fit with the conference
selected by its authors towards the most appropriate conference. For topics common to two or more conferences, as indicated in the
respective topics lists, the decision about acceptance of the paper will be taken jointly by both Technical Programme Committees.
Even in this case, each paper must be submitted to only one conference, selected by the author(s). Authors will be notified of the
status of their submission by April 21st 2011. A final paper will be required by June 13th 2011. Authors of accepted papers will find
instructions for publication and presentation at the EuMW2011 website. Authors are responsible for obtaining publication approval
by their employer.

Incentives for Authors

All participants to one of the three conferences will receive one CD-ROM with the proceedings of all three conferences. Furthermore,
all accepted papers will be published on IEEE Xplore. Selected papers will also be nominated by the Technical Programme Committee
for a special issue of Proceedings of the EuMA International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technologies.

Greater importance will be attached to the poster sessions which will be much more interesting and lively, with their own dedicated
timeslots. The poster areas will be designed to encourage information exchange and discussions between authors and participants.
Also an interactive poster session is organised jointly by EuMC and EuRAD. During this session the authors can demonstrate real-time
operation of hardware or software or present videos, showing the operation of complete systems.

Each conference will award a best paper conference prize and a young engineer’s prize. Prize winners will receive a financial award.

Workshops and Short Courses

During EuMW2011, a variety of different workshops, short courses and focussed sessions on a variety of topics will be organised.
For EuMW2011, Sunday 9th October and Friday 14th October will be devoted to a variety of workshops and short courses.

Any suggestions are welcome and people are encouraged to submit proposals for Workshops/Short Courses.

Proposals should be on one page, indicating the selected conference (EuMC, EuMIC or EuRAD), the title and a short abstract of the

Workshop proposals will be validated at the TPC meeting in April 2011.

The 6th European Microwave Integrated Circuits (EuMIC)
Conference will be held from October 10-12 2011 in Manchester, UK
as part of the European Microwave Week. This microwave
integrated circuits conference will continue to help make European
Microwave Week the largest event in Europe related to RF
microelectronics.
Monolithic Microwave Integrated circuits, MMICs and RFICs, are the
foundation of today's communication and sensing systems. While
GaAs and silicon based IC technologies are used extensively in
today's systems, emerging technologies such as wide band gap (SiC,
GaN, etc.), InP/antimonide CNT and Graphene based devices are
expected to become commercially available within a few years, with
a big impact on system performance.
The downscaling of silicon technologies such as CMOS and SiGe-
HBT, according to Moore's law, has now resulted in device
performance close to the III-V technologies with cut-off frequencies
exceeding 400 GHz. Highly integrated microwave and millimetre-
wave systems will also be available for many more consumer mass
market applications.
As a result of the downscaling, there are, however, numerous
technical challenges to overcome, including low breakdown
voltage, higher 1/f noise, substrate noise, and many others.

To provide short time-to-product, first-pass success in the design
becomes critical. Accurate component modelling and efficient
CAD/CAE tools are vitally important. Success in these technologies
will enable new services in the areas of safety and security, high bit-
rate wireless access, and multigigabit/s low-cost wireless links. In

EuMIC is the leading conference in Europe for MMIC and RFIC

European Radar Conference

The 8th European Radar Conference (EuRAD 2011) will be held
from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th October 2011 in Manchester,
UK, as part of the European Microwave Week 2011. This Radar
Conference is the major European forum for the present status
and the future trends in the field of radar technology, system
design, and applications.
In the radar sub-systems and phenomenology topic area, the
conference is focused on effects, modelling and measurements of
electromagnetic phenomenology (such as RCS, clutter,
propagation, sensing fundamentals, distributed sensing etc.);
