Democracy

Democracy is a form of political organization where/in which all people, through

consensus, direct referendum, or elected representatives exercise equal control over the
matters which affect their interests. The term comes from the Greek: dēmokratía "rule of
the people", which was coined from dêmos "people" and Kratos "power", in the middle
of the 5th-4th century BC to denote the political systems (then) existing then in some
Greek city-states, notably Athens following a popular uprising in 508 BC.

First of all, I think that democracy is one of the best forms of political organization
because it gives us the right to choose our leaders (by whom we want to be led). In the
medieval period, people thought that the leader is chosen by God, and this characteristic
has been transmitted from generation to generation since then. (poti sa lasi si fara since
then)

Secondly, democracy has a positive aspect because (some of) its main rules are (the)
equality and (the) freedom. I thing it is important for people to have the right to decide
what they should do with their life. For example, (the) communism doesn’t give people
lots of choices and they aren’t allowed to do some stuff, and this makes them anxious and
frustrated.

Thirdly, I think that being able to change something without violence is the greatest thing
about (idea of the) democracy. In the past, if people wanted to change the leader, they
had (where supposed) to fight, to do strikes and revolutions, but nowadays this consists in
only a vote.

However, democracy has also negative aspects. The fact that (the) people elect their
leader it’s not always a good thing because they can make a bad choice. For example, in
(the) Moldavian Republic , even if they were allowed to choose a democratic leader, they
chose a communist one.

Another disadvantage is that people can misunderstand the term of democracy and
become insane (like crazy). An example to sustain this argument is the case of Romania ,
when people started doing whatever they wanted after the Revolution from ’89.
Last but not least, (argument against is the fact that) democracy leads sometimes to the
fact that the majority gets (almost) everything, and there is (almost) nothing left for the
minority. (An example in this case is) For example, in some small communities of
Hungarians, their opinion doesn’t count and they are seen as a plague.

Even if it is not the best that we can do, I think that democracy is a good form of political
organization because people have their own rights, they are free to choose and to express
their opinions.

(In conclusion, we can say that democracy is the best form of political organization, even
thought is not the best we can invent.)
