Introduction
The theoretical background of stress detection can be divided into two parts; the physiology and the signal processing of Heart
Rate Variability. As the physiological issue, the ANS, Autonomic Nervous System, (or involuntary nervous system) plays an
important role. This nervous system consists of two components: the sympathetic nerves and the parasympathetic nerves. When
the activity of the sympathetic nerves increases, it will result in increasing the heart rate while an increase in the parasympathetic
branch results in slowing of the heart rate. The analysis of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and electrocardiogram (ECG) is extensively
employed in understanding the ANS activities.

Proposed System / Framework /Model

In this research project, the objective is to develop a decision support system using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference machine
(ANFIS) computed on relative extracted features from acquired ECG and PPG signals. This proposed algorithm could be used as an
independent module for companion robots in order to serve elderly and office environments to detect the staff stress and offer a
relieving suggestion.

Signal Acquisition Steps

1. Provide Inducing Environment (relax and stress state) .

2. Signal Acquisition: Electrocardiograph and Photoplethysmograph sensors.
3. Feature Extraction (relative time domain and frequency domain features).
4. Translation algorithm. To coin words/control devices.

Introduction

Palm ’n Go is a touch-less palm-based biometrics system which is integrated with both software and hardware device. This project is
motivated by the public’s demand for non-invasive and hygienic biometric technology. For various reasons, users are concerned
about touching the biometric sensors. This problem is particularly exacerbated at the height of the A H1N1 pandemic. Therefore, we
develop an integrated stand alone palm-based capturing system that can be mounted on the wall for access control purpose. The
user does not need to touch any device. The user just positions his/her hand naturally in front of the sensor and the system will
automatically unlock the door for him/her (provided that the person is a genuine user or registered user). The system can perform
both verification (1-to-1 matching) and identification (1-to-many matching). Verification, in average, can be performed in less than
1 second. The system has been tested with 110 users palm data and the accuracy rate is 98.9%.
