Project Officer (Center for Applied Social and Economic Research)

The Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER), Hong Kong University of Science
and Technology, aims at promoting evidence-based research on important issues related to social and
economic development and their impacts on people’s lives in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.
With the support from the RGC-CPU Strategic Public Policy Research (2009-2014), the Center
conducts the Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics (HK-PSSD), the first household panel
survey in Hong Kong SAR. CASER is looking for a project officer to coordinate the household
survey and other research projects.

The appointee will be required to coordinate the household survey and other research projects,
specifically to work with fieldwork team to conduct in-person interview, and liaise with local and
overseas partners and government offices to co-ordinate the survey activities. He/She will also
monitor, evaluate, and report on data collection when the survey is fielded; recommend and
implement corrective action to keep to project plan and targets; and be responsible for daily office
operation and supervision of junior staff.

Applicants should have a good bachelor's degree, preferably a higher degree, in social science, and at
least 3 years of proven experience in project management and fieldwork supervision. Solid
experience in academic and social research is essential. He/She should have an excellent command of
written and spoken English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua), good communication and
interpersonal skills, and ability to work closely with internal and external parties concerned. He/She
should also be a good team player, highly motivated, responsible and reliable, able to work under
pressure and meet tight timelines, and proactive in identifying and solving problems. Experience
working in and/or with government, non-governmental organizations, and education institutions will
be an asset. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including
annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be
payable upon successful completion of contract.
