Two friends were travelling on the same road together when they came face to
face with a bear. One, in great fear, and without a thought of his companion, climbed into
a tree and hid. The other, seeing that single-handed he was no match for the bear, threw
himself on the ground and feigned death, for he had heard that a bear will not touch a
dead body.
The bear approached him, sniffing at his nose and ears, but the man, with great
courage, held his breath and kept still, and at leaning the bear, supposing him to be dead,
walked slowly ahead.
When the bear was well out of sight the first traveller came down from his tree
and asked what it was that the bear had said to him. “For”, said he, “I observed that he
put his mouth very close to your ear. He replied the other “ it was not great secret”
“Why.” He only advised me not to keep company with those who when they get into

Cloning of Animals
In the modern era, technology has developed to such a certain degree that
scientists are able to create new forms of life. One of them is cloning. The debate whether
cloning of animals should be allowed or not seems endless.
Those who agree with cloning of animals usually argue that the cells produced
from them can be used to stop animals from becoming extinct. They also add that cloning
has a purpose to produce high quality of cells.
Many species are becoming rarer and rarer. Scientists are concerned if they don’t
do something to save certain species, these animals will be extinct forever. For this
reason, researchers have improved cloning technology so that many rare species can be
successfully cloned.
However, not everyone is excited about cloning animals. Some people feel that it
could have terrible consequences.
For example, if dinosaurs are cloned, then men could be extinct. It is clear that
these ferocious beasts cannot live together with humans. In history, these creatures lived
several thousand years before men appeared. Can you imagine these giant killing
creatures living within the same era and on the same planet with us?
As a result of this controversy, people still haven’t got the answer yet for cloning
animals. Moreover, some members of the scientific community think that the banning of
cloning technology will destroy the creativity of science.

The world of communication has progressed from the telephone to the current
internet communication and to the new products of the mobile phone. Mobile
communication is the fastest growing communication system. It is used for personal,
official and business communication.
Most families have one or more mobile phones. They use them to keep in touch
with other members of the family. People contact each other to make appointment, to
make dates or just to keep in touch through the mobile phone. Tradesmen who are on the
road all day keep in touch with their head office through the mobile. They get their
instruction about jobs over the mobile.
Mobile multimedia communication will continue to grow in importance. A new
data service has come on the market. It is called WAP ( Wireless Application Protocol ).
It allows the internet to go mobile. Data transmission and e-mail messages which were
sent by the internet to a personal computer can now be accessed by mobile phones.
The new mobile phone technology allows you to get various internet service
easily. You have access to e-mail, search engines, local information and news, bookings
and reservations. You can also get music, games, navigation assistance, financial service,
online banking, and other items like stock quotes. The products that the mobile phone can
provide are numerous. This is just the beginning. Everyday more and more products are
being added to the mobile phone.

Typhus is a contagious disease, which is caused by a germ named Salmonella


Lyphi. This germ enters into human body through the impure food or drink. When the
germs enter the body, people will get the syndrome after seven to twenty one days.
The main syndrome is a fever. At the first phase, the fever will increase step by
step during five to seven days. Then, it will be high constantly. Besides, the infected
people also will get a disturbing digestion, such as a disturbing taste and an
uncomfortable stomach. They also may get diarhea. At a serious infection, the disease
will cause people to get consciousness disturbance, even shock.
However, because of the advanced technology in medicine, thypus can be cured
using the antibiotic therapy. The patients will get well and be productive again, but some
of them still have the typhoid germs in their bodies, and this germs can be found in their
urine. They become the contagion of this disease to other people, although they have not
suffered it. These people are called as carries.

At least seven people have been arrested for hoarding and selling fuel at higher
prices than that set by the government.
City police natural resources crime unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad Haydar said
many fuel agents who were supposed to sell kerosene to households had chosen to sell
the product to factories for a higher profit.
The government has set the price of kerosene for households at Rp 700 per litre
and at Rp 2,200 per litre for industry.
Ahmad said many agents licensed to sell, kerosene to household took advantage
of the price gap by selling most their stock to factories.
Many housewives, especially in Greater Jakarta, have complained that the price of
kerosene was too high for them and they had to use firewood for cooking.
On Feb, 22, police arrested two agents for illegally selling and hoarding fuel. On
Feb, 28 police arrested two other people for hoarding 20 tons of kerosene. On March 3,
police detained a man only identified as SH in Jaka Sampurna, Bekasi, with more than 80
tons of kerosene, and another man in Cilincing. North Jakarta, identified as Ag with 30
tons of diesel oil.

Contraceptive use has dropped 20 per cent in Indonesia, a trend that sparked fears
of a population explosion.
Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data reveals that Jakarta headed the plunge with
22,24 per cent drop from the 71,71 per cent of women of child bearing age who used
contraception in 1997. west Java recorded 21 per cent decrease, 15 per cent in East Java,
the most populous province, and 10 per cent in Bali, which has the country’s lowest birth
rate.
BPS released its latest welfare statistics in 1997, when 36 million people were
registered as contraceptive users.
The secretary of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN),
Lalu Sumardi, told the Jakarta Post on Saturday that the decline was caused by reasons
ranging from financial concerns to male attitudes.
“Contraceptives are no longer affordable to most poor people”
Lalu said poor people were reluctant to buy prescription pills, which were free during the
new order regime that fell in 1998.
