Introduction

Vijaya Bank, a Strong & Fast Growing Public Sector Bank, with
Head Office in Bangalore, having a network of 1178 branches
plus offices across India, with an employee strength of around
12000, was founded on 23.10.1931 by Great Visionary Late Shri
A.B.Shetty, & other enterprising farmers in Mangalore, Karnataka
the cradle of Indian Banking, with an objective to promote
Banking habit & entrepreneurship amongst the farming
community of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka State.
Vijaya Bank, though was founded during the peak of the Great
World Economic Depression, by virtue of the conviction of its
founders and strong fundamentals, overcame the great
depression, when many of the Bank’s in India as well as all over
the world either collapsed or were merged with other banks, and
steadily & consistently grew into a Pan India Bank and in the
process took -9- banks into its fold. Vijaya Bank, was
nationalized on 15.04.1980.

The Bank is a pioneer in introducing new & innovative products,


which are trendsetters, tailor made to the diverse needs of
varied clientele. The Bank completed its platinum jubilee in the
year 2006. The total business grew by more than 15% from Rs.
90,410/- Crore to Rs. 1,03,867/- Crore as at March 2010(YOY) in
congruence with the Bank’s Mission “To emerge as a prime
national bank backed by modern technology, meeting
customer’s aspirations with professional banking services
and sustained growth contributing to national
development”.

Moving ahead to totally accomplish the Mission, the Bank has set
an ambitious target of crossing Rs. 1,26,000/- Crore total
business by March 2011. The stupendous and consistent growth
of the Bank from a modest beginning in the year 1931 to a
Robust & Strong All India Bank is achieved only by the creative
ideas and the dedication of committed and invaluable Human
Assets of the Bank.

Spread of the Bank:

The Bank’s head office is located in Bangalore City of Karnataka


State. It has 21 Regional offices located at Ahmedabad,
Bangalore North & South, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati,
Hassan, Hubli, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore,
Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Pune, Shimoga, Udupi, and Vijayawada.
The Bank has at present a network of 1178 branches + Offices
and all the Branches/offices are in CBS platform, spread all over
the country covering all the states and union territories. The
Bank is shortly opening representative offices / branches in some
overseas territories.

Products & Services

The Bank is offering various Assets & liabilities, FOREX and other
ancillary services/products in addition to the traditional banking
services. It is also offering debit card/credit card, merchant
banking, electronic remittance services such as EFT, RTGS, Net /
Mobile Banking. It has launched Flexi Savings Bank/ Flexi Current
Account, multi city cheque facility through CBS Branches, V-
GenUTH(a unique deposit scheme for Minor Children / Students),V-
GenUTH Unnati, V-Payroll, V-Saral, Special dedicated products
such as V-Swashakthi (for Women Entrepreneurs), V-Rakshak (for
Defense Personnel), V-Shikshak (for Teachers) .

Recruitment Details:

The Bank, intends to recruit officers in general banking


stream, through Campus Recruitment from Indian citizen

candidates from your institute/College/University. The selected
candidates will be placed in Junior Management Grade Scale-I
(JMG-S-I). The position/fields/scale in which the Bank intends to
recruit and the details of scale of Pay, qualification and age
criteria are as under:

1. Position:

Assistant Manager – General Banking (JMG-S-I)

2. Scale of Pay:

JMG-S-I : Rs. 14,500 – 25,700

In Scale of pay only the Basic Pay is mentioned. The main


components of salary are: Basic pay + D.A.+ HRA + CCA etc. +
other benefits. The cost to the company in case of an Officer
working in Metro Centres will be approximately Rs.3.50 lakh
for JMG-S-I officers.

Other Benefits include LTC, LTC encashment in lieu of LTC & Leave
encashment, Accommodation/House Rent Reimbursement in lieu of
HRA, Reimbursement of Conveyance Expenses, Medical Aid,
Hospitalization Expenses, Loans at subsidized/concessional rates,
Welfare schemes, Contributory Provident / Pension fund, Gratuity
etc.

3. Q u a l i f i c a t i o n :

First Class in MBA (Agri Busi Mgmt) / MSc (Agri) (Full


Time Course) with minimum 60 % marks. (In case of
SC/ST 55% of marks.)

(The candidate should possess the qualification prescribed as


above invariably on completion of the current academic year
i.e. 2010-2011. Wherever CGPA/OGPA or letter grade in a
degree is awarded, equivalent percentage of marks should be
indicated as per the norms adopted by University/Institute.)

Further, wherever the final examinations are not over / results


not declared, the candidates should have secured 60% marks

in the previous years / semesters /trimesters (55% marks in
case of SC/ST) to be eligible to be considered for participation
in the placement process.

4. Age: (as on 01.07.2010)

Minimum : 21 years Maximum : 25 Years


The Maximum age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to the
following category as mentioned:

Abbreviations stand for:


SC- Scheduled Caste; ST-Scheduled Tribe; OBC- Other Backward Classes; PWD –
Person with Disability (VC – Visually Challenged; OC – Orthopaedically Challenged; HI –
Hearing Impaired

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and PWD category should furnish attested copy of
their Caste Certificate / Certificate of Disability issued by the Competent Authority. The
details are enclosed.

Selection Process:

Officers in Junior Management Grade Scale-I:

The process of selection of Generalist Officers in JMG-S-I will be


based on merit ranking arrived on assessing the candidates,
mainly in three attributes i.e. (a) academic track record (b)
group discussion & (c) personal interview and also based on
the overall suitability of the candidate to the specific jobs in
a bank like organization.

Reservations & Relaxations/Concessions:

The Bank is required to recruit certain number of candidates


belonging to SC/ST/OBC category & also PWD as per the
Government rules. The reservations, relaxations, and
concessions will be observed, as per the
guidelines/directives/administrative instructions issued by the
Govt. of India from time to time.

Work flow of Selection Process:

The College/Institute will have to give its explicit willingness to


the Bank to visit their campus and forward the bio-data of the
willing candidates, who fulfill the eligibility criteria stipulated
above. Bank may short-list certain candidates for group
discussion/interview and inform the same to the college. The
institution/college will ensure the availability of the short-listed
candidates at the campus for undergoing selection process, when
the interview committee visits the college/institution, on the
dates mutually agreeable to the Bank as well as the
college/institution. The necessary arrangements will have to be
made by the institution at its own cost. In exceptional cases,
where the Bank is unable to participate in the placement
programme, interview and selection of short-listed students will
be done at the Bank’s premises.

Once the interview committee finalizes the merit list and decides
the list of selected candidates, the college/institute will be
intimated in writing about the provisional selection of candidates
subject to the candidates fulfilling the other systemic
requirement criteria as applicable to any employee joining the
Bank.

Bank will issue a provisional selection letter to the individual


candidate through the institute/college, subject to completion of
the qualifying examination with specified percentage.

At the same time the candidate who is offered with the


provisional selection letter will have to give an undertaking that
he is willing to join the services of the Bank soon after

completion of the course/degree and passing the examination
with minimum prescribed percentage of marks mentioned earlier.

Once the candidate completes the qualifying course with


minimum stipulated percentage of marks, he/she will be issued
with formal appointment letter through the institute/college. The
candidates will be on probation for a period of Two years.
However, such appointment and confirmation in the services of
the Bank will also be subjected to receiving satisfactory
references from the respectable referees, police verification of
antecedents, caste/class verification, if any and compliance of
service regulations & conduct regulations of the Bank.

The selected candidates are required to serve the Bank for a


minimum period of 3 years from the date of joining the Bank and
should execute an indemnity bond for Rs.2.00 lakh in case of
JMG-S-I officers, which is to be paid by him/her in case he/she
resigns from / leaves the services of the Bank before completion
of the stipulated 3 years period.

The discretion is vested with the Bank to have an overall


assessment of the candidates and their suitability to the specific
jobs in a Bank like organization and reserves its right to select
the candidates who are found suitable. In other words, Bank has
no obligation to recruit candidates necessarily from your
institute/college.

No fee / honorarium / or any other charges incidental to the


selection process shall be paid to the Institution by the Bank for
selecting the candidates.

1. Role Responsibilities:

Bank has got well defined policies, established systems,


processes and practices. All the roles and responsibilities of the
officers in the Bank have been mapped to Seven Grades/Scales
and to the specific designations. An Official can be posted as
Branch Head or he can be assigned specific functions pertaining
to banking business. All the roles/scales and designations are
empowered to exercise certain delegated powers, execute the
processes and make decisions within the frame work of
established rules and guidelines of the Bank. The degree of
authority, scale of management are well defined and will vary
depending on the scale and (or) post.

2. Career Path:

The selected candidates will be absorbed in the Bank in JMG-S-I


based on the assessment and suitability to the specific jobs in a
Bank like organization as mentioned earlier. The absorption will
be full time and on permanent basis. The period on probation is
reckoned for every purpose while calculating the length of
service and accordingly the employee benefit schemes as per the
Bank’s policy will be made available to him/her. The career path

As per the extant promotion policy, any candidate who joins the
Bank in Junior Management Grade Scale I can reach the position
of General Manager, ideally in 16 to 20 years span, based on
performance.

3. Learning and Development:

Bank is having a Staff Training College, Regional Training


Colleges catering to training needs of the Bank. Bank also
imparts training to its employees in specialized areas by
deputing them to external institutions like National Institute of
Bank Management (NIBM), Bankers Training College (BTC),
Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD), Foreign
Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI) etc. and to even
some overseas institutions. The candidates will be under
mentoring system during their probation period, through which
the Bank will groom its newly recruited employees by giving right
kind of inputs through various learning methods and the mentors
will play a vital role in giving them guidance and support and
address the problems encountered by them in official front as
well as personal front. The Banking business involves versatility
in its activities and the candidates need all round grooming.
Accordingly, even the specialist officers working in the Bank will
be required to be equipped with the overall knowledge of various
facets of the banking business.

4. The candidates are required to work at any of the


branches/offices of the Bank located throughout the country or
overseas.

5. All the newly recruited Officer employees of the Bank will be


governed by:

i. Vijaya Bank (Officers’) Service Regulations, 1982.


ii. Vijaya Bank Employees conduct Regulations, 1981,
iii. Vijaya Bank Officer Employees’(Discipline & Appeal)

shall be regulated and

GUIDELINES WITH RESPECT OF CANDIDATES


BELONGING TO SCHEDULED CASTE (SC) / SCHEDULED
TRIBE (ST) / OTHER BACKWARD CLASS (OBC) /
PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWD).

i) Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and PWD category


should submit / produce copy of their Caste Certificate /
Certificate of Disability issued by the Competent Authority.

ii) Candidates belonging to OBCs but coming in the "CREAMY


LAYER" are not entitled to OBC reservation. They should
indicate their category as ‘Gen’ or ‘Gen Persons With
Disabilities’ as applicable. OBC Certificates in the format as
prescribed by the Govt. of India and issued by the Competent
Authority inter alia, specifically stating that the candidate

does not belong to the Socially Advanced Sections excluded
from the benefits of reservations for OBCs in Civil Posts and
Services under Govt. of India i.e. having ‘CREAMY LAYER’
Clause. OBC certificate should not be more than one year
old..

iii) The definitions of PWD Viz. Visually Challenged (VC), Hearing


Impaired (HI) and Orthopaedically Challenged (OC) are as
prescribed in “The Persons with Disabilities (Equal
Opportunities, Protection of Rights & Full Participation) Act,
1995" and persons with disability" claiming the benefit of
reservations/age relaxation should submit a copy of Medical
Certificate as specified in the "The Persons With Disabilities
(Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights & Full Participation)
Act of 1995" in support of their disability.

iv) THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY FOR THE ISSUE OF THE


CERTIFICATE TO SC/ST/OBC/PERSONS WITH DISABILITY
(PWD) IS AS UNDER:

consist of Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer in
the District and an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
