Soft Matter

Soft matter is a type of matter which is not liquid but it is not

solid. It is in between. We can find it everywhere. This type of
matter can take any shape. That is what makes it interesting.
The types of soft matter are gels, emulsions, polymers, colloids,
liquid crystals, biomolecules. Examples of liquid crystals are LCD
(liquid crystal display) televisions and laptops. Biomolecule examples
are caffeine, sugar, and carbohydrates. Nylon and polyester are
examples of polymers you can find. Butter and milk are colloids. An
example of emulsions is mayonnaise. Examples of gels are gelatin and
quicksand.
There are many polymers in nature. One example of polymers in
nature is starch. Starch is a polymer produced by some plants.
Another example is cellulose, which all plants are made up of.
Another polymer you can find in plants is rubber. Animals and people
also have polymers. Some of them are proteins, silk, and enzymes.
Soft matter is used on technology when they use it for LCD TVs,
laptops, digital clocks, etc.
You use soft matter in your everyday life. You use it when you
watch TV on your or your friend’s LCD TV. Soft matter is present
when you eat chicken nuggets which have proteins in them. Soft
matter is also present when you eat a piece of bread with some
butter over it and you drink it with a glass of milk. Some of your
clothes have the presence of soft matter in them. Soft matter is
also present when you are watching an ice hockey game and the puck
hits the glass that doesn’t break. Overall, if you notice well, you will
see that a lot of things have the presence of soft matter in them.
What I like most about what I found is that sometimes we don’t
notice the things that make up our everyday life and our
environment and one of those things is soft matter.
We will see soft matter every day of our lives so we have to
learn to live with it and notice the good things we get from it.
Another of my opinions is that soft matter is very important
because it helps
our body. Enzymes are polymers and polymers are types of soft
matter. Without
enzymes, our body wouldn’t keep going so that is another reason
why we should
consider soft matter in our lives.
In conclusion, soft matter will be there during our whole life
whether we like it or not and we should not take it for granted even
though it seems like a small thing when it’s actually not.
