Meridian Youth Sports Authority

MYSA Mission Statement

The Meridian Youth Sports Authority (MYSA) was founded on Christian

principles and exists to promote the highest ideals of teamwork,
sportsmanship, honesty, trust and respect for authority with the specific
purpose of influencing kids and adults to become better individuals.

MYSA COMMITMENT

MYSA is committed to Christian values, physically and emotionally healthy

families, a vibrant family-friendly community, and a path for excellence and
continued growth of organized youth team sports in Meridian and
Lauderdale County by providing the organizational structure and
recreational facilities needed to facilitate an environment of participation,
safety, fun, and healthy competition for children of all ages.

MYSA is committed to working with and supporting the current local youth
recreational leagues and their efforts to serve the community.

MYSA Vision

MYSA is committed to the healthy growth and development of each child in

a vibrant family-friendly community, and a path for excellence and
continued growth of organized youth team sports.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

MYSA originated in 2010 and is the result of a grand vision to create a

centralized community resource to facilitate a healthy and growing
environment for organized youth sports in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

Increased buy-in and participation from local youth leagues plays a critical
role in a shared vision for improving the culture and growth of our youth
sports programs. During the last quarter of 2010 MYSA will conduct
meetings with youth league leadership to determine their challenges and
needs. In the future MYSA will expand services that will assist with the most
common areas of league interests and needs, and expand the mission and
purposes of MYSA.

MAKING YOUTH SPORTS AVAILABLE TO MORE AREA CHILDREN

Local leagues have expressed great interest in being more involved with the
MYSA to more effectively promote their leagues to the community.

HELPING YOUTH SPORTS TEACH MORE THAN JUST A GAME

There is a shared concern about providing quality coaching, and addressing

problematic behaviors in an effort to improve the culture of local youth
sports. Every league we met with said they would gladly participate in
coaching clinics conducted by MYSA. Developing high quality,
comprehensive coaching clinics for the youth leagues will be a major
priority for MYSA.

HOSTING SPECIAL COMMUNITY EVENTS AND YOUTH SPORTS

TOURNAMENTS

For years Meridian has hosted the most consistently successful and growing
annual youth sports events of their kind in the area. These Special Events
and Tournaments will be vital to providing funding for MYSA operations, and
also provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic benefit to the
community.

MYSA will continue the established efforts that have brought excellence to
our current events and explore opportunities to add exciting new events
that bring revenues to MYSA, benefit our local families, and bring tourism
and recognition to the community of Meridian.

The key to success is to stay true to our mission of having a positive impact
in the lives of children and their parents through quality youth sports
programs and events.

Economic Impact Formula

1. Number of teams ( x)
2. 25, the average number of players, fans, coaches, spectator per team,
( x)
3. Days of event ( x)
4. Daily Average Cost of Meals, Lodging and Incidentals ( x)
5. Impact Factor – the impact of outside dollars on the local economy for
rollover. 1.65 is the Impact Factor.

10 teams x 25 x 2 days x $ 200.00 (conservative) x 1.65=

$165,000.00 per Tournament

This is what is realized when the “new dollar” into the

community is spent up to 5 times. Each time the new
money is spent a portion is lost due to taxes, so the dollar
loses its economic impact to community over time and the
community becomes “stale”. Communities have to
generate “new money” to prosper, otherwise, they don’t
grow.

Lauderdale County Baseball Travel Teams
2010
There were 12 USSSA baseball travel teams in Lauderdale

County. The team’s ages ranged from 7 to 14. Each team

traveled outside Lauderdale County an average of 8 times
last year. The Teams will begin the Travel season again in
February of 2011.
Using the Same formula the USSSA uses to determine
economic impact. We can determine the real dollars
Lauderdale County residents are spending in other
communities.
Teams, X Players, Parents, and Fans, X Days of Event, X
average daily cost(Hotels ,Meals Gas, and Incidentals), X
number of out of town Tournaments = Real Dollars Spent
Real dollars spent by Travel Teams from Lauderdale County in other Cities
around our State.

12 teams X 25 fans and players X 2 days X 200$ average daily cost X 8

out of town Tournaments =
$960,000.00 per year.
