7
INTRODUCTION OF THE
COMPANY

8
9
Rentio tuver dal was first manufactured in the year
1936 in Navapur, which is located at about 100km in east from Surat.
The place was selected because there was abundant crop of Deshi
Tuver in area, which was grown by adiwasi farmers without the use
fertilizers or insecticides. This is true even today.

The machinery was basically adopted from German rice milling

machines, and was run on oil engines, as there was no electric power
on those days.

Distribution was limited to the near city

Surat and that of Mumbai and means of transportation was Railway
only, machines were improved later electric
power arrived. Also improvements were made in packing,
distribution, marketing etc. Rentio was the

first to introduce small packs in dal business, thereby reaching the

consumer with a brand name, all the way in their homes.

10
RENTIO BRAND NAME:
Rentio is a Gujarai word and
means Charkha in Hindi and spinning wheel in English. It is interesting
to know how the word Rentio was selected as a brand name, during
nineteen thirties, when brand name were not even prevalent, for
products,such as Tuver Dal.

One of the elder brother of the family was fully involved in the
freedom movement of nineteen twenties onward. His name was
Gordhandas chokhawala. He worked with Mahatma Gandhi and later
become the President of surat municipality and was the first mayor of
Surat Muncipal Corporation, and later Education Minister in Gujarati
ministry.

The family was involved in national freedom movement and spinning for khadi
on spinning wheel was daily ritual for all the brothers and other members of
the family as the followers of Mahatma. So when the question of selecting a
brand for the product cropped up, it was unanimously decided the RENTIO
should be brand name.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

29
Most of the other dal mills make extensive use of water
while processing tuver into dal ,to remove the skin from the hard
grain of tuver and to split it into two parts. Water helps make an
impact on the natural glue with which the skin and the two parts
are stuck. To make dal by using water is an easy way.

But surely it is not the proper way. As we all know,

any grain or pulse(dal) affected by water or moisture loses its
inherent quality, because moisture has always an adverse effect
on the grain, or pulse due to oxidation.

At Rentio no water is used while processing our deshi

dal.it is a unique dry process, perfected by Rentio, where use of
30
small amounts of sweet oil, and sun drying process is
undertaken, there by retaining all the natural flavor, taste and
properties of the original grain of tuver.also, the use of most
modern machines such as destoners, colour sorters and grader
gives a very unique hygienic and totally clean RENTIO DESHI
TUVER DAL.

Due to the above reasons, certain unique distinctive qualities are attained by
Rentio Deshi.
1. It cooks faster compared to most other dals, thus saves time
and fuel.
2. Unaffected by water or ny moisture,it retains its original
sweetness.as a result Rentio Deshi Dal tastes sweeter with
pleasant aroma.
3. Because of dry process,it absorbs more water while
cooking, and result in additional volume of cooked dal.
This means that comparatively less amount of dal is
needed for preparing dal for the same number of persons.

QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS

31
32
Too be able to provide excellent highly uniform
quality throughout the year, extensive testing or raw material
such as, tuver, sweet oil, finished dal and packing material etc is
undertaken in laboratory establish just for this purpose.

Rentio is the only company to have such a lab

in a dal mill. No raw material goes into the factory without testing
and meeting the set standerds.simillarly,no finished product go
out of the factory without testing in the lab, and meeting the set
of standerds. Our lab is fully equipped to maintain continuous
quality control of deshi dal and its packing materials.

33
INVENTORY CONTROL
SYSTEM

This is the very important system because it helps to

control the misuse and wastage of raw material and semi
finished goods. The manager daily takes the report of raw
material and semi finished goods. He checks the opening
balance and closing balance of raw material and semi finished
goods.

Different records kept in store

1. In flow records of the materials.

2. Out flow records of the materials.
3. Record related to daily stock of materials.

STRUCTURE OF FINANCE

Accountant

Accountant clerk

The scope of financial management , that

is, the views about finance function have undergone remarkable
changes over time. Till 1950, finance function was regarded as
the function of rising the finance for business only. Since last 30-
40 years, however, an effective an efficient utilization of finance
has also been considered as an important function of finance
management.
44
Undoubtedly, money occupies a key
position in the capitalistic economies of the modern age. One of
the most important function of the top management is to raise
finance at a right time and right quantity and also to use it most
effectively. In fact, this function constitute the core of financial
management. This is evident from the fact that while all other
function of management can be and frequently are delegated to
the other person, the power to take finance decision is always
reserved for the top management only.

Money is the life-blood of modern

business. Money is required to purchase expensive machinery,
and day-to-day expenses on raw material, labour, and
operational administrative needs of business. Execution of
expansion plans and modernization programmes are not possible
without adequate finance. Thus, money can be described as the
life blood of industry.

MEANING AND OBJECTIVE OF

FINANCIAL-MANAGEMENT
45
Meaning:

According to Hoagland “Financial

management is concerned mainly with such matter as, how a
business corporation raises its finance and how it makes use of
it”.

According to soloman “Finance

management is concerned with the efficient use of an important
economic resources, namely, capital funds”.

Objectives:

The firm has to take investment and financial decisions on a

continuous basis. To make optimum and wise decisions, a clear
understanding of the objective is a must. There are two
approaches regarding objectives of financial management.

1.Profit Maximization Approach:

Economists believes for along time that
earning maximum profit is the sole aim of any business
46
organization because that will lead to optimum allocation of
resources also. Actions that increases the firm’s profit criterion
of economic efficiency.

2.Wealth Maximization Approach:

In simple words, it means maximization
of net worth of shareholders. When decisions is to be taken to
invest money, it should be in such a way that the return from
the investment must be more that the amount which is invested.

RENTIO believes in only one approach that is Profit

Maximization Approach.

CLASSIFICATION OF COST IN
DIFFERENT CATEGORIES

47
There are no as such categories of costs in RENTIO but they
have divided all the cost in general categories which are as follow

1. Material Cost:

This cost incurred when the product is

being produced. This cost includes raw material ,power, etc.
which are use to produce the product.

2. Labour Cost:

This cost includes the salary of the given to

the workers who helps in production. This cost may be direct or
indirect. Direct cost includes the machines operator’s wages and
other officer’s salary and indirect cost includes supervisor’s
salary, watchman’s salary etc.

3. Factory Overheads:

This overheads the expenses incurred in

factory or where the production is being done. Generally this
includes factory rent, repair and maintenance, electricity etc.

4. Other overheads:

This overheads includes the selling and

distribution expenses and office and administration expenses.
Selling and distribution expenses includes advertisement
expenses, dealer’s commission and promotion expenses and
48
office and administration expenses includes stationary and
printing ,telephone expenses etc.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

49
For many business firm, inventory is one of the visible and
tangible of doing business. Raw materials, work in progress and
finished goods all represent various form of inventory. In simple
words, inventory refers to stock of good necessary to do
business.

In fact, for a business firm, inventory is both an asset and a

liability. Too much inventory consumes a lot of space, causes of
financial burden and increasing the possibility of damage,
spoilage and loss. On the other hand too little inventory disturb
manufacturing operations.

TYPES OF INVENTORIES
50
1. RAW MATERIAL:

This are goods which have not yet been

committed to production in a manufacturing firm. They may
consist of basic raw material or finished components. In many of
the case the finished goods of one industries becomes the raw
material of another industries.

2. Work in process:

This includes those material which have

been committed to production process but have not yet been
completed. They are unfinished good and lying at various stages
of production.

3 .Finished goods:

This are completed product awaiting sale.

They are final output of the production process in manufacturing
firm.

In RENTIO these types of goods can be seen in

the form of high quality tuver dals.

3. Supplies:

This material are of flow value and they do not

enter the production process. They are oils, fuels, bulbs, soaps etc

51
1. Scrap:

The wastes of material arising during

manufacturing process is also the part of inventory. Defective
pieces that are to be disposed off are a part of inventory.

CONCLUSION

Finally, completing my summer training project in one of the

great manufacturing company of tuver dal in India called RENTIO
FOODS PVT.LTD., during my training session, I found every
52
employee in the organization very responsible, effective, perfect
and co-operative. They have helped me a lot at every step during
my training period and with the help of which, I have gathered a
great practical knowledge of real business world which is of miles
away from theoretical concepts all that I have learned in my
previous time.

Hence, by visiting all the department in the company, I

conclude that each of the department in the company are
regularly and properly managed, arranged and scheduled.

And lastly, I wish a good luck to RENTIO FOODS PVT.LTD. its

success in future.
