Music to her ears:

Celebration of son’s life helps
mother’s healing process

Theresa Montgomery has agonized through

the ups and downs expected for someone grieving
over the loss of a son.
But the candlelight vigil March 16 organized
by the Redan High School community to honor her
son was a sort of emotional cleansing.
“Words cannot begin to express what I feel,”
she said as more than 200 students, family and
community members participated in a night of
music and dance. The vigil was in remembrance
of 17-year-old Marquez Montgomery, Theresa’s
only son, who died in a car crash exactly a year
before the vigil.
Marquez, whose nickname was Thirst, was a
popular student who was a member of the percus-
sion section of the Redan High School marching
band.
