STAGES:
ACTIVITY 1: WARM-UP
AIMS: - to warm students up
- to recycle vocabulary about adjectives
TIMING: 5 minutes INTERACTION:T-Ss, S-T
PROCEDURE:
T divides the class into two teams and propose Ss a little vocabulary game for
warming up.
T explains Ss the rules of the game: - T gives Ss two areas and asks them to say a
word from this area (pairs of adjectives to
describe behaviour; pairs of adjectives to describe physical appearance)
- the first team that reaches 11 points in the
winner
ACTIVITY 2: LEAD – IN
AIMS: - to get Ss into the new topic
- to make students’ ability in comprehension better
TIMING: 7 minutes INTERACTION: T-Ss, S-T
PROCEDURE:
T tells Ss the title of the new lesson.
T asks Ss to look in their books and to say what they think is about in this lesson
considering the title and the picture
„What do you think the title means?”
„What does it refer to ?” emigrate = leave one’s country to settle in another
„Do you know anyone who has emigrated?”
„Who?”
„Where did they go?” „What were the reason?”
Ss answer to the teacher’s questions
T presents lesson’s aims
T asks Ss to listen the tape carefully and then to solve their worksheets for
listening activity.

ACTIVITY 3: PRESENTATION OF THE NEW KNOWLEDGE


AIMS: - to improve students’ ability in reading in English
- to learn new words
- to find out more about British people’s ancestors
TIMING: 15 minutes INTERACTION: T-Ss, S-T
PROCEDURE:
T asks Ss to read the lesson by roles . Lesson is read by all students
T asks Ss if there are any words they don’t know.
T writes the new words on the blackboard and Ss in their note-books
bagpipe = traditional musical instrument from Scotland = cimpoi
weird = strange = ciudat
wailing cats = lamentation = mieunat (de pisică)
eventually = finally = at last = în cele din urmă
ancestors = people who lived before us = strămoşi
T asks Ss some questions: Do you know who are your ancestors?
Do you know anything about English’s ancestors?
T asks Ss to read about English’s ancestors ; After they read T asks Ss: „So, now
you know who the English’s ancestors was?
Ss talk to teacher.
T asks Ss to translate the lesson.

ACTIVITY 4: PRACTICE OF THE NEW KNOWLEDGE


AIMS: - to make a polite request following the example from the text
- to start and maintain a conversation
- to remind what are the uses of used to/ be used to
TIMING: 10 minutes INTERACTION: T-Ss, S-S, S-T
PROCEDURE:
T asks to a student to translate again the expression „Do you think you could get
out of the way, you two?
T asks Ss to give more examples of expressions we can make a polite request and
then t ogive examples of how we can agree to a request or refuse with a reason
T asks two students to come in front of the classroom and to try to make a short
conversation
T asks Ss to remind the uses of „used to / be used to”
T asks Ss to find examples on the text. Ss give examples. T writes on the
blackboard.
Used to USE: - for past habits
e.g. She used to smoke (She doesn’t smoke now)
e.g. He used to play bagpipe (He doesn’t play now)
FORM: S+ used to + V (infinitive)
* in questions and negative sentences, the d is dropped
e.g Did you use to work here? I didn’t use to play tennis.
Be used to USE: - to talk about a habit or something familiar
e.g I’m used to getting up early
FORM: S + to be + used to + V-in
* we use get used to when we becoming used to something
e.g I got used to hearing bagpipes.
Ss write in their copy-books and then they will solve a worksheet given by the
teacher

ACTIVITY 5: FEED-BACK
AIMS: - to use the knowledge learnt in this lesson in a game
TIMING: 10 minutes INTERACTION: T-S, S-T
PROCEDURE:
T divides the class into three teams and gives each of the team a cube with some
papers in it. Each member of the team has to choose a face of the cube, to read the
question written on it and to give an answer. If the answer in correct his team gets
a point
The team that reaches the most points is the winner team.

ACTIVITY 6: EVALUATION
AIMS: - to evaluate sudents’ work
TIMING: 3 minutes INTERACTION: T-Ss
PROCEDURE:
T thanks to the students for their activity and congratulates the students which
have given correct answers. T puts some marks.
